2019 is past and 2020 is knocking at the door! Every one of us can look at the past year (or the past 20 years) and see things we could have / should have done differently. Not one of us sees the future clearly, at least not in all the stark detail with which it shall surely come upon us.

A few snowstorms, some winter ice and definitely some long dark nights but the shortest day of the year is behind us now; around many tables, families will soon be gathering to share in festive celebrations of Christmas. We in the CHP have weathered the storm that was the 2019 General Election and in another week we’ll be thrust into the challenges and opportunities of a new year.

This decade is coming to an end; the second of the “new” millennium. Time marches on and this millennium has brought changes that were not even imagined 20 years ago. The law of unintended consequences has overtaken much of our culture.

In a quick Google search of “conversion therapy”, the first 9 links are to articles either opposed or hysterically opposed to the concept of providing assistance to people seeking to leave a homosexual or transgender lifestyle. Like many other issues related to sexuality and world view, socio-political leftists have embraced a narrow view restricting the right of any person seeking deliverance from unwanted same-sex attraction and behaviour to engage competent, professional help.

Sadly, the world was reminded this past Friday of the threat of terrorism that could arise at any time. The heroics in England on the London Bridge reminded me again of the power of one person who refuses to submit.

​In recent news, we learned that undercover investigator David Daleiden—the man who secretly recorded Planned Parenthood executives talking about their illicit organ-harvesting and sale of baby parts—was found guilty by a jury of multiple crimes. His offense? Exposing the criminal and hideous black-market operations of the abortion giant.

You’ve probably heard a hundred times: “Religion and politics don’t mix.” Or maybe the phrase “Separation of church and state.” But have you ever thought deeply about these statements?

​Should you have to violate your conscience to do your job? If the answer is, “get a different job if it conflicts with your morality”. That response might be good enough for some, but it’s not a responsible answer given some facts on the ground.

​In the final year of the Great War, prior to the battle of Amiens, a significantly demoted Lieutenant-Colonel Winston Churchill inspected the troops who would shortly thereafter be putting their lives on the line.

Last year, our Prime Minister signed us up for the Global Compact for Migration. This will basically open our borders to whomever feels they want to live in Canada. There is no need for a compatible world view. Who cares what your past is… Thief? Rapist? Terrorist? It doesn’t matter, just dust off your feet on the welcome mat as you walk in.

​In post-election Canada, as political parties and pundits are surveying the wreckage of the 2019 campaign, various thoughts and theories are being laid out as to the reasons for the return to power of the most corrupt and arrogant Prime Minister in recent memory, albeit with a minority government.

​The voters have voted. Justin Trudeau will return to Parliament as Prime Minister, albeit with a minority government. But why?
