Taxation
- We recognize that there must be some form of taxation to fund legitimate governments activities (national defence, highways, etc.)
- The current income tax unfairly takes hard-earned wealth from Canadians; the harder they work and the more overtime they work the more severely they are taxed.
- A tax on purchases is fairer and allows Canadians to reduce the amount of taxes they pay by controlling their spending.
- The CHP would replace the federal income tax with a FAIR TAX on consumer purchases, allowing wage-earners to keep more of their paycheques to save, spend or invest.
Carbon Tax
- CO2 is not pollution; it’s plant food!
- Carbon taxes are just a tax grab; virtue-signalling!
- It’s unconstitutional for the PM to force the provinces to collect taxes.
- Carbon taxes do nothing for the environment but they raise the price of EVERYTHING!
A National Sales Tax—the “Fair Tax”: CHP Canada believes that Income Tax is a demotivator. Before a Canadian has a chance to see what they have earned, the government has stepped in and taken their (fair?) share. A National Sales Tax to finance our government will be a return to what was successful before the government discovered that they can simply take whatever they determine is satisfactory from your salary.
We believe that a growing economy will provide additional consumption with potential for more tax revenue collected by means of a National Sales Tax (replacing all federal income-based taxes).
CHP would put Canadians in control of their own finances, which is a positive motivator. Canadians choose how much they spend of their salaries and how much they save. Through their decisions, it is determined how much will be put into government coffers and how much will be retained in the individual’s / family’s coffers.
Under our current tax system, you work then the government takes, prior to you touching your paycheque; prior to its actual government set due date of April 30 the following year; whatever percentage they mandate. Then, you and your family gets to keep whatever is left of your salary after the government has taken its “pound of flesh.” We at CHP Canada believe this is unfair taxation and, doubly so, because we then pay the Goods and Services Tax, plus other hidden taxes. This system is demotivating and demoralizing to families who are trying to get ahead.
Our current system of taxation also allows for the government to overestimate your taxes, which overage they will repay the following year, while you and your family are in desperate need of the additional funds held by the government. CHP Canada believes in clear and visible taxation.
CHP Canada would institute a National Sales Tax. This would be a set percentage of purchases. Simpler bookkeeping will also cut down on government costs.
CHP Canada believes that each person / family can choose whether to buy a new Rolls Royce, with the accompanying sales tax on its purchase price or purchase a Chevrolet with its considerably lower sales tax on its purchase price. Thus, you are in control of your taxes.
This system also encourages thrift as people can easily see the difference between tax on $30,000, which is considerably less than tax on $150,000.
With a CHP government that takes seriously the need to spend only what you have, this mentality will be passed on to citizens cutting back on credit card debt and other financing.
CHP Canada will replace the demotivating Federal Income Tax with a Fair Tax on all purchases. This will put Canadians in charge of how much federal tax they pay as it’s calculated as part of the purchase price.
The deserving poor will seek support, through the individual himself, the family circle, voluntary associations, charitable societies, and the church, prior to reaching out to government. With our revisions to our Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance, Canadians will be more able to help themselves and others through difficult times.
