Euthanasia

Euthanasia

  • Euthanasia, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), and assisted suicide are unacceptable responses to any situation, whether it is a terminal or incurable illness or a chronic condition.
  • Yet, Canadians are being pressed to consider this as a viable treatment for anything from poverty to painful illness for which quality palliative care is available.
  • Investment in quality palliative care, mental health and pain management must become our first priority for those who are struggling or facing the end of their earthly journey.

All Canadians must have access to quality pain control—no matter where they live. Pain control and palliative care must be given a much higher priority in medical training so that every Canadian can benefit.

The Canadian government must undo years of damage to families by reinforcing the bond that binds families together and considers each moment of life spent together a gift from our Heavenly Father.

Further, MAiD must not serve as a treatment for mental illness. On March 17, 2027, MAiD will be available to those who’s sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness.

It is time for our heritage, which placed great value on human life, to be restored. From conception to natural death, each stage must be lived to the glory of God.

CHP Canada policies advocate a return to intimate and strong family relationships, which promote hope and significantly reduce the pain of dying alone and lonely. We would promote effective care and treatment for mental illness and addictions.

To this end, we would recriminalize participating in any act leading to the intentional death of another person.

Suggestions or pressure applied to a person to end their life would be a criminal act.

CHP would promote investment in hospices and genuine palliative care, designed to alleviate suffering and enhance the quality of life.
