Free Enterprise

Free Enterprise

The most efficient engine of economic growth is free enterprise—the freedom of individuals and groups to initiate, own and manage a business undertaking. We regard the independent business enterprise (including agricultural) as the backbone of the private free-enterprise system and as the chief source of new employment.

When citizens are allowed to use their own gifts and imagination to create employment our economy flourishes. A CHP government would remain out of the business sector to allow the free market to determine business successes and failures.

A CHP government would encourage a spirit of social and moral responsibility to protect the employment rights inherent in our Christian heritage.

A CHP government would also ensure that our Canadian businesses are responsible to mitigate the negative aspects of growth such as pollution and dehumanizing working conditions in supply countries.

A CHP government would participate in the production of goods or the provision of services only if they are definitely required in the public interest and private enterprise is either unable, unwilling, or inadequate to supply them on a reliable basis.

We support the principle of equal opportunity for all in the workplace and the principle of equal pay for equal work. Pride in what we have contributed to society ensures a healthy, productive workforce. A CHP government would ensure equality in the workplace without condescending to “affirmative action.”

Our CHP approach to Free Enterprise is to ensure that Canadian businesses are socially responsible toward Canadians, our environment, our trading partners and their employees. A CHP government would contribute to growth and prosperity through prudent spending habits, keeping government interference to a minimum.
