Defend Marriage

The family is the foundation of a strong stable society. The foundation of the family is one man and one woman in an exclusive, committed, monogamous relationship. Children thrive most when raised in a stable home with their parents, (birth or adoptive). This is the goal of joining together in marriage.

This foundation provides a safe and loving environment to raise and educate the next generation. The family ensures a continuation of the values from generation to generation. Children have been placed under the authority of their parents until they reach and age of accountability, understanding and maturity.

Parents have been mandated, by God, to educate their children. This awesome responsibility may not be sloughed off, passed along, or usurped. Although academic instruction may be shared with trusted educators, the overall responsibility remains that of the parents.

Contrary to what we have seen in recent years, educators ought never to override or diminish the authority of the parents. They must work together with the parents, fully informing them of major concerns about their children that they have observed in the school environment.

Marriage

Marriage is comprised of one man and one woman in an exclusive, committed, monogamous relationship.

  • Marriage—the exclusive union of one man and one woman—is the most basic of human relationships and the foundational building block of society.
  • The marriage commitment between a husband and a wife provides the most stable environment for the raising of children.

Throughout millennia men and women have provided for their children by committing first to one another. This ensures the protection of children to secure future generations.

Out of great respect for and deference to this foundational relationship the CHP would ensure that the legal definition of marriage is restored to that between one man and one woman and protected.

Parental Rights and Children

Parents hold a unique place in a family and in the lives of their children. A parent’s love and sacrificial role in the child’s emotional, physical and moral development from conception to adulthood must be protected.

  • The family must be protected from the usurpation of the state and its agencies into the parental role.
  • The state and its agencies play a supportive role to the parents in the academic education of children only, at no point should the state become a decision-maker for the child in areas of moral, religious and medical matters.
  • At no point should the state or its agencies withhold information from parents about their own children or override parental authority
  • The state must not interfere in family matters except in cases of obvious and provable child abuse.
  • Parents must be enabled to provide in-home care for their children rather than being compelled—through taxes—to subsidize public day-care for others.

The usurpation of parental rights by the government must be reversed and the parental role recognized ‘not withstanding’ the attempts by various agencies to interfere in the unique function of the family.

CHP Canada acknowledges the limited role the state must play in a child’s life. We would ensure the protection of parental rights and enact legislation restricting the authority of the state over the child, and by extension the family.
