You’re Talking to Whom?

The world is a hive of bad news, so where does one start? The Zimmerman Trial? The thwarted terrorist strike in B.C.? David Kupelian’s "The Marketing of Evil?" 491 babies left to die? Or should we go overseas to another uprising in Egypt? Perhaps Iran’s nuclear threat? Better yet, Israel’s potential strike on Iran? As you can see, this could become a very long list. But does it even matter?
There are a myriad of concerns and newsworthy stories breaking nationally and globally that make it almost tempting to bury one’s head in the sand and hope that someone else is taking care of these problems. You know the ”I pay my taxes so some government employee must be taking care of the problems,” type of person. Or the “I’m not into politics,” person, or the “I’m too busy with all the other things in my life” person, or the “News is too discouraging so I stopped watching it” person, or whatever!
I know it’s no coincidence that I chose “Are You Awake?” last month for the opening script in our new CHP video presentation. Am I surprised that this was the same question I heard a pastor passionately ask his congregation just this past Sunday? “What will it take to wake people up?” he asked.
Most in an audience, on the receiving end hearing about people having to “wake up” will shake their heads in agreement that yes people have to wake up. They will not realize that they are the very people that are being addressed as being “asleep!” So, maybe we should be a little less polite.
Let me explain. Having all the head knowledge about these important concerns is meaningless unless you put the knowledge to good use. If you are not actively engaged in some type of activity to curtail where this nation is heading then you are one of those people being referred to as ”asleep.” The fact that you know our nation is going to hell in a hand basket and you can explain it and complain about it is useless unless you are actually engaged in doing something about it. Hearing and/or recognizing the alarm does not put you in the category of people who are awake. If you are doing nothing about it, you are simply rolling over in bed.
As a boy sailor some 40 odd years ago, I heard for the first time in my life how they wake up sailors in the morning on board a destroyer. It’s actually called “Wakey-Wakey.” It is an ear full, it is loud, it is clear, and it means “You will sleep no longer.” It means “There is work to be done,” and a sailor quickly finds out that if he decides to roll over and go back to sleep there are consequences forthcoming that he will not enjoy.
Well folks, it’s wakey-wakey time in Canada. It has been for some time. Lying in your bunk bobbing your head up and down acknowledging that you know all about it is achieving nothing. In fact when the ship sinks – and it will at this rate – you will be going down with it.
The Christian Heritage Party is one of many organizations that are not only telling people to wake up but are also providing a concrete means for people to get involved and do something about our decline.
If the extent of what you are doing is saying things like “I know it’s just terrible,” or “Just when will people wake up?” then this may be breaking news to you, but you are the one who is “asleep.” If you refuse to wake up and become part of the solution then why should you expect your neighbour to wake up so you can sleep in? If you are committed to the solution, i.e. are an active member of the CHP and/or financially committed to the party, that is a clear indication that you are a person who is “awake” and is on the battlefield. I thank you for doing what you are doing. Together, we can save the culture that has provided a rich heritage of freedom and equality.
Join and make a contribution to the team that intends to wake up this nation!
