One Document for All Canadians

Our Charter of Rights and Freedoms points out that Canadians recognize the supremacy of God and that all people are equal before the law. What a great foundational rock for a nation to be built on! But, who of us, standing on that rock, understands the significance of that statement and is willing to defend it?

Defend it? Defend what? We have to defend something?

Well yes, we all like the freedoms and protections we have received, and feel secure in Canada, but those foundational principals didn’t just appear out of thin air, did they? History reveals that our foundational rock stems from the Magna Carta of 1215. Now, if you are able to still find a translation with the scriptural references intact, you will see that those references for law and order came from Judeo-Christian biblical principles.

As I pointed out in last week’s Communiqué, biblical principles protect every individual’s right to view the world through the lens of whatever faith they choose, as long as that faith or belief system does not impair the same right for others.

The same foundational document that gives already born Canadians the freedoms we cherish also states that there is another person who is wonderfully complex; one who is being watched by the Creator as he or she is being woven together in the seclusion of the womb.

For that reason, the Christian Heritage Party recognizes that the human life (a new “person”) starts at the time of fertilization (conception). Therefore, a mother’s womb must be guarded and made to be the safest place to live in Canada. There is never a reason for an abortion. When a mother’s life is in danger, the doctor should do everything to save both the life of the mother and the life of the unborn child. If that is done and the child still dies, that is not considered an abortion.

Additionally, when a woman is faced with an unanticipated pregnancy, we should surround her with care, protection, comfort, counsel, and the information she needs to make a decision she will not regret later. Every baby is a wanted baby, though not necessarily wanted by the biological parents.

I’ve been asked, “What about rape?” In the case of rape, there are two victims, so why is it being suggested that killing an innocent child is the solution? Our foundational document states that the unborn have the same right to life as those outside the womb. We must care extremely well for both victims. Every rapist, when caught, should have an example made out of him that will deter this horrible crime. Additionally, we must hold government accountable for giving us safer communities in which to live.

We have one foundational document that protects every Canadian and our CHP Canada Better Solutions is evidence that it speaks to us today.
