What’s Their Secret?

There is a previously unknown federal political party organizing and building an electoral district association (EDA) not far from me in Nova Scotia. To say the least, their achievements are enviable and they will no doubt become a growing concern to the major federal parties. They appear to have a small but very dedicated full time staff, they are easy to contact, and lately they have actually dropped in to visit me a couple of times. Most surprisingly, I even agree with some of their policies!
I see in our local Weekly Press that this new party is running regular ads that are certainly getting people’s attention, and some of the letters to the editor are mentioning their common sense approach to community issues. There’s a bit of a rally going on here, every two months when this party holds some kind of community event and a lot of people are actually saying that they are having fun when they attend. Fun with politics?!? What’s their secret?
My investigation revealed that their small but dedicated EDA staff is actually paid a salary to do what they are doing. That’s their day job and they love it. Each day they go to work to organize, strategize, and promote their party. On a regular basis, they travel the EDA visiting their members, to keep them informed and encourage them to invite family and friends to their party’s upcoming events. Their travel expenses are paid.
They have announced that they have an excellent candidate who will be running in the 2015 federal election and my sources have told me that they have a sizable bank account and campaign team building to support her candidacy.
To find out more, I decided to attend one of their evening meetings at the Milford Recreation Center, which is only about ten minutes down the road from my office. Yes, they were very well organized; their EDA officers were obviously well trained in their tasks and I was most impressed by how they sold their party. A very powerful and professional DVD presentation gave the audience an excellent overview of the party’s policies and what they intended to achieve. The DVD presentation did most of the work selling their party, and then it was followed up with a well thought out Power Point presentation with a call to action that made the audience want to be a part of the movement. Revolutionary to say the least!
To my utter surprise, their Power Point presentation pointed out the mathematical secret to their success:
- Their EDA had grown to 200 members in a very short time and it has an annual revenue of $48,000, 75% of which is paid for by the federal government.
- The 200 members raise the remaining 25% by way of donating only 60dollars each (after refund) per year to the party.
- Over the next year they plan to double their membership and hence double their operating budget!
- All their EDAs across Canada provided a portion of their contributions to cover their National Office expenditures thus eliminating a member’s decision as to whom they should give their donation to.
This radical new federal political party that I am speaking of is the Christian Heritage Party of Canada.
The year is 2014! The strategic plan they implemented to make this happen was launched in June 2013 – It was called The Promise.
