​Every math student knows that problems can only be solved when there is enough information given to which one can apply a formula. Sudoku enthusiasts use the process of elimination to fill in missing information without which the rest of the puzzle cannot be completed.

Was anyone else besides me terrified at school in the 1970s by the spectre of another ice age? Scientists said we were facing another ice age. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. My fears—of not waking up one morning because of another ice age—were unfounded.

Canadians want to live in peace…at least, most of us do. We’ve just gone through a bloodless civil war in Canada (we politely called it an “election”) and most of us want to move on, to get back to the work we were doing when the writ was dropped. Unfortunately, we don’t always get to write the script for our lives.

Our prayers go up for the people of France, who, on Friday, were attacked by Islamic terrorists. Our sympathies go out to the families who have lost loved ones in this brutal and senseless slaughter.

This week, we will pause to reflect on the courage, heroism and selfless sacrifices of our men and women in uniform who gave “the last full measure of devotion” for our country and for our freedom.

For years, the Christian Heritage Party has promoted restorative justice. If you had the pleasure of hearing one of our candidates respond to questions about justice on the campaign trail, you will have heard them talk about our two pillars of justice: public safety and restitution for victims of property crimes.

Those who live on the seacoasts of Canada and who enjoy eating clams and mussels know that a “red tide” is a bad thing. It is a discolouration of seawater due to an unusually high concentration of algae.

It was a bad night for the NDP; a worse night for the Conservatives; and mediocre for the Greens. What about the CHP?

On the heels of “another Thanksgiving dinner that couldn’t be beat”, I’ve been thinking about how thankful we all should be that we live in a country blessed by God with so many rich natural resources, so many gifted human resources and so many opportunities for citizens to express themselves—through writing, art, music, entrepreneurship and business development, etc.

​A week ago something happened. It had been coming so slowly for so long that you might not have noticed it — seniors over age 65 now outnumber young people age 14 and under.

Democracy is a good deal better than dictatorship. At least our ancestors thought so and many died so that we could enjoy the privileges of citizenship in a democratic nation where most decisions are a group effort and national direction is guided in large part at the ballot box.

In terrifying news for all Canadians, we recently learned that an Edmonton judge has ordered a tried and convicted terrorist to be free to move about Canada.
