​Tyranny comes softly at first. Like any trap, the key element is surprise . . . the unexpected. If every enemy of democracy, civilization, and healthy societies could be clearly identified and understood, citizens would likely rise up and confront the threats.

As Canadians race to keep up with decisions made by our Supreme Rulers at the Supreme Court of Canada (SCOC) and their provincial counterparts…the legalization of killing unborn babies, prostitution, euthanasia, taxpayer-funded drug sites—the list goes on…we find our subservient elected officials grovelling in obedience to their masters.

​CHP Hamilton Mountain launched their public awareness campaign, Competing Human Rights . . . Where is the Justice? on August 1. It consisted of three bus shelter poster ads and the distribution of two thousand four hundred flyers, which asked a simple question, “Competing Human Rights . . . Where is the Justice?”

According to public opinion, politicians are generally classed as liars, tossed in with the stereotypical used-car salesman (my apologies to all the honest and hard-working used-car salesmen reading this column . . . and all the honest politicians out there who have gotten a bad rap).

​When did we start thinking that “time served” equals justice? Deep inside, most of us know that it does not, but our court system seems to have no alternative solution.

​There is much talk about hate in these days and as the death toll rises in cities and malls around the world, in our schools and in our streets, it is evident that hatred—deep, burning, cruel and bloodthirsty hatred—has gripped the hearts of many.

The twenty-something generation might not be thinking much about their pensions yet, but they should be. Canada Pension Plan (CPP) payments get taken off each worker’s paycheque, and employers are required to make matching contributions. It affects everyone in the work force.

Dallas again. In Dallas on November 22, 1963—53 years ago—the world sat stunned in the horrible aftermath of JFK’s assassination and the subsequent shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald which played live on national TV.

It sounds like the beginning of a cheesy joke, but after last week’s court ruling in Ontario, a Christian lawyer might not be allowed entry to Ontario’s bar association (the Law Society of Upper Canada, the body which accredits Ontario’s lawyers). And that is no joking matter.

​Tomorrow, we celebrate the 149th Birthday/Anniversary of the Dominion of Canada. Until 1982, this celebration was called ‘Dominion Day’, acknowledging Sir Leonard Tilley’s presentation to the Fathers of Confederation that our name should be based on Psalm 72:8: “He (God) shall have dominion from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.”

David Stephan and his wife Collet have been sentenced to, respectively, four months jailtime and three months house arrest for “failing to provide the necessaries of life” for their 19-month old son, Ezekiel, who died of meningitis in March, 2012.
