No Double Standard-Equality for All!

Drawing international media attention is the plight of a Malaysian woman who will be caned for drinking an alcoholic beverage in a hotel bar. Not all women in Malaysia are subject to such a ruling, in fact 40% are free to drink the same beverage without being punished. So, whatever allowed for the legislation of what appears to Canadians to be a double standard within the boundaries of one country?

The answer to this question is in the August 25th Wall Street Journal, where the former Maylaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, says that Malaysia's Muslims have nothing to explain to the rest of the world. "As Muslims, we do not have to care too much about the view of others toward Islam when doing what the religion calls for," he said.

Malaysia has allowed for two sets of laws; Sharia law for Muslims and civil law for non-Muslims. The official religion of Malaysia is Islam, but it was agreed that the law would not impose any disability on non-Muslim nationals professing and practicing their own religions.

Could this be a snapshot into the future of Canada? Certainly! If our government doesn't deal with a heavy hand at all attempts of other cultures to undermine Canadian laws-whether coming in under the guise of religion or otherwise-then this is exactly what we can expect.

Immigrants to Canada have a duty to pledge their allegiance to the land which they have chosen to call "home". This must mean that they agree to abandon practices and traditions which are contrary to Canadian law and tradition such as:

  • Sharia Law-examples-honour killings, caning, polygamy, genital mutilation, etc.
  • Bondage-example-Enforced wearing of a burqa or face-covering
  • Gang Violence-example-Mexican, Chinese, and Vietnamese drug-related wars
  • Radical tactics against government-example-Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers

These types of practices are far in excess of our common understanding of multiculturalism and contrary to our shared beliefs about equality, personal freedom, personal responsibility, personal safety and the rule of law. In order to maintain Canada's Christian heritage the CHP will ensure that new immigrants and refugees pledge to uphold the Canadian constitution which states: Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law. Only the Judeo-Christian worldview based on the biblical rule of law provides the safeguards which give citizens the inalienable rights that have been enjoyed throughout our history, and which must be protected. We will see that multiculturalism brings only enhancements to Canada such as the arts, cuisine, labour skills, science and medicine.
