It’s Christmas!

There can be no peace on earth nor can there truly be peace among men without first acknowledging the King of Peace.

There can be no greater time of celebration to tie together this entire world than Christmas. Yes, there are those who foolishly choose to call Christmas something else but the very fact that the date on the calendar is approaching 2013 begs the question, doesn’t it? Just what happened approximately two thousand and thirteen years ago that was so important that mankind re-started the calendar at day one?  “Happy Holidays” wasn’t born 2,013 years ago, neither was Mohammad, Buddha, or Nostradamus. The world acknowledges that it was the Christ child who caused mankind to throw out the old calendar and start a new one! When someone tries to corner you, just point to the calendar.

As my family prepares for this joyful celebration, in some moments of quiet reflection, my thoughts turn to those who are less fortunate; those who are abused, mentally and physically; children in broken homes; and spouses whose dreams of a wonderful marriage have painfully evaporated. Young girls sold to the underground sex trade, trapped in this horror, who can now only reflect on past family Christmases—if, indeed, they had the privilege of growing up in a family where love was the rule and Christ was honoured. Those suffering can feel so alone, especially during the  Christmas season. I’m reminded of Canadian Muslim women living in fear of their family members, accused of “dishonour” simply because they wish to adopt the Canadian lifestyle; of Canadians like Linda Gibbons and Mary Wagner who are political prisoners of conscience in Canada.

I believe those who are trying to bring hope to this suffering world understand better the immensity of the need. The issues can appear so overwhelming especially during Christmas. I’m comforted in knowing that although there are those whom we cannot rescue today, we can take a moment to ask the Comforter to come alongside of them. I am also comforted in knowing that CHP members are on the forefront of the battle for a culture that has lost its moral bearings and even as we briefly pause to celebrate the Saviour’s birth, approximately 2,013 years ago, I know that as the New Year dawns, our members will renew their efforts in the battle for Canada.

I want to wish each and every one of you a blessed Christmas.

Christmas is all about giving! Mankind was given a Son, the greatest gift imaginable. He told us “You have not because you ask not.”  Well, that isn’t very complicated then is it? As a political organization of close to six thousand members, the Christian Heritage Party of Canada can, each and every one of us, in our own way, cherish beyond measure what we have and take the time now to ask a blessing on behalf of those who have not.

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
