Don’t Waste Your Vote… Make it Count!

I'm often asked during my travels across Canada, "Jim, how do you respond to those who suggest that voting for CHP Canada is a wasted vote?"

"Well," I answer, "it depends on the person making that uninformed assumption and the amount of time I have to respond."

A "wasted" vote is one cast for a party that has not earned your vote by solid policies that will strengthen the moral condition of the country (both socially and fiscally). If we want to strengthen democracy, we have an obligation to vote for the party that best represents our core beliefs—whether we think it will "win" or not. (18 seconds)

Years ago, people were told not to vote NDP because it was "too small, and could never win," and "voting NDP would split the Liberal vote." Nevertheless, NDPers didn't compromise their position, nor do they compromise it today. In spite of its very anti-Christian ideologies, look at the enormous gains the NDP has made, and the impact it is having on Canadian politics today. CHP Canada should do at least as well… (26 seconds)

A party can have an effect even before actually winning a seat. Poll-by-poll results are carefully analysed by all parties after each election to see who is growing in popularity—and why. When the number of voters supporting the Green Party reached five or six percent, the other parties started to take notice. Then, in the next election, all elected parties tried to outdo each other in order to look "green."

We can force the other parties to recognise their moral obligation to govern according to righteous standards. Thus, voting your conscience is very important, regardless the size of the party. A rise in the polls, however slight, will be noticed and can eventually force other parties to look at their moral obligation to govern according to the righteous standards you believe in. The only thing that will accomplish that is to vote for a party whose policies will enact those principles. (55 seconds)

The 2001 census indicated that 77% of Canadians claim adherence to Christianity. Well, the Bible is clear: it is God who raises up and puts down rulers. Therefore, those Canadians who claim such adherence (that same 77%) have a duty before God to vote according to biblical principles. Having done that duty, the outcome must be left to God.

Bill Bright correctly stated: "Citizenship in a free country is a blessing from God. Our great system of self-government assures every Christian a voice in the affairs of the nation…" So you see, the very people who are concerned over the loss of their freedoms and their voice in the House of Commons are the ones who hold the power to take it back.

Even Mark Twain, a non-Christian, spelled out the answer: "If Christians should vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease." (50 seconds)

Is voting Conservative, Liberal, NDP, or Green a wasted vote? Well, if you're a social and fiscal conservative it certainly is!
