Coming to Our Census

What happens when the lines in a graph cross? It marks a change! A newsworthy item, especially when these lines represent demographic trends. The 2016 census showed that two major demographic lines have crossed: the percentage of the Canadian population who are senior (over the age of 65) has been counting upwards, and the percentage of children under 14 has been in decline. This has been happening for around 40 years, but only now has the trend reached a point where we have more seniors than children.

This is a major news story, and so the media was all abuzz about it—for about 24 hours. The effects of this trend will be felt for 24 years—or more! While this is major news for the media, in 2008, CHP Canada sounded the warning with a 5 part series on the demographic winter.

“The reason is basically that the population has been aging in Canada for a number of years now and the fertility level is fairly low, below replacement levels,” said Andre Lebel, a demographer with Statistics Canada (emphasis added).

“Fairly low,” eh? That is like someone telling you that your car tires are “fairly low” because they have less than atmospheric pressure; in that case, you don’t have pressure, you have vacuum!

Our demographics are like this, we have a “demographic vacuum,” which we have been trying to fill with immigrants. But as our economic condition worsens as a country, will we remain a prime destination for immigrants?

The funding for both Old Age Security and Health Care, which are already tight, will be squeezed increasingly as this trend continues. It will be hard for politicians to cut taxes for younger Canadians because it would mean funding cuts for older Canadians—the people who are most likely to vote! We are in a dilemma of our own making.

Abortions of the past 40 plus years have left our country with fewer children, fewer teens, and fewer young adults—the very people who can have children and help remedy the problem!

Canada has been actively pursuing the very things that have led to this problem, but it seems we are surprised now that they are a problem! Lower birth rates have been touted as an indicator of greater wealth in a society and birth control, including abortion, has been promoted as good, or at least morally neutral.

The results of another poll came out earlier this year, and the results of this one were more surprising. It does not have the weight of the Census, but a CROP poll asked Canadians what they thought about the origins of life. They asked respondents if they thought that: A. “The earth was created in six days as taught in religious texts” or B. “The earth has existed for billions of years and life appeared here as single cells that evolved to where we are today.” Judging by what Canadians have been taught in the public school system, and how they generally vote, how do you think respondents answered?

As it turns out, forty percent most-agreed with A. that the earth was created in six days! Fifty-nine percent believe in billions of years and evolution. While this news is not the best ever, it shows that belief in ideas other than those taught as “mainstream” by the secular media and public schools have not been quashed! While those aged 65 plus were much more likely to believe in creation, there were around 1 in 3 who believe in the 18-34 cohort!

CHP has to reach out to this younger generation (millennials)! We, as party members, need to engage and sign up our children, grandchildren, and any young person who does not believe the mainstream narrative; those who are concerned about the future of the country.

The one in three who don’t believe in billions of years and evolution are more likely to be tough and willing to disagree; that makes them ideal CHP members! They are also becoming more aware of the financial burden they are being left with by a large population of retirees and the financially irresponsible governments of the last number of years.

CHP offers them hope, truth, and honesty. Please pass this Communique on to a millennial, and engage with questions that will arise! We need you to join CHP Canada and assist with bringing this message to our country. Canada needs to come to its senses!

PS You can go here to see Canada’s changing demographics in an animated chart; they are similar from 1851 to around 1964, and then the number of children starts to drop-off considerably.
