I recently read that one of the major developments in modern Western society is the phenomenon of “cocooning” – people pulling in, living private lifestyles in which they shut out the world and its concerns. Cocooners have interest only in what touches them, and they set up their environment so that they control what touches them. I certainly agree with that assessment and I’ll go on to add that most Cocooners I know have very little knowledge of the controversial issues that are impacting their province and nation nor do they want to know. In fact, when I bring up these issues even in casual conversation I immediately detect a degree of discomfort on their part and a desire to either leave the room or change the subject. How sad. Canadian political commentator Rex Murphy once commented to the effect that “what we have in Canada didn’t just grow up out of the ground… [nor can we] expect it will always be there.” Referring to the decay of what we once had in Canada he went on to say, “a large part of the blame [goes to] the political class” and “a large part of the blame [goes to] our own complacency because we have it so good.” Yes, Canadians have had it very good and I have to ask: at what point will Cocooners realize that their ‘having it so good’ is being threatened? Our freedoms are threatened by, so called, “Human Rights Commissions.” Our equalities are threatened providing special rights to special groups. Our standard of living is threatened as we sell out our sovereignty and allow penalties to be inflicted upon Canadians to purchase the nebulous ‘carbon credits.’ When will Cocooners decide to leave their cocoons and get involved to correct the situation? If we look to Europe for the possible answer we see that civil unrest, riots, bankruptcies and terrorist acts have finally begun to bring people out of their cocoons. Even at this stage, I sense their politicians are still reluctant to address the issue responsibly and with a firm hand. There are exceptions of course…men of the courage and calibre of Geert Wilders from the Netherlands. Do you know any Cocooners? Are you a Cocooner? Some are individuals, some are families, some are churches and some are well-intentioned groups that have divorced themselves from anything political or controversial outside of their immediate circle. They have all fabricated what they believe to be a legitimate excuse for not getting involved. The fact of the matter is that there is no excuse for anyone to not be on guard for Canada and to not be doing his or her political part. Organizations have a responsibility to their members—to keep them informed and to encourage them to act on behalf of their nation. The Christian Heritage Party of Canada is wide awake and deeply concerned for the continued welfare of this great nation. CHP Canada is doing everything it can to not only provide a vehicle whereby candidates of integrity may seek election to the House of Commons but also a vehicle whereby sleeping Canadians may be alerted and informed regarding the many issues which the mainstream media and the politicians now in power are concealing. Outside the cocoon, a great battle is raging; will those now comfortably cocooned respond to the sound of the trumpet and help to rescue Canada from our tragic decline? Or will they close their ears, close their eyes and pretend everything is all right? We call on each of you to do your part to reach the Cocooners. Your bold and faithful words may help to wake our fellow-citizens from their slumber. If enough Canadians are awake and ready to do their part, we may yet see this nation rescued and restored to the greatness of her destiny.
