The Devil Is in the Details

How closely do you follow our nations finances? Sometimes snuggled amidst the financial reports live some really dangerous pieces of legislation. It’s often missed, but thankfully, some alert people were awake when the federal government’s Standing Committee on Finance (FINA) presented Finance Committee Report #21 to Parliament on Dec 13, 2024. The Committee’s primary role is to study and analyze government finances, including the federal budget, and to make recommendations to the House of Commons.
It is important to understand that FINA is composed of members of the political parties represented in Parliament. They are financially astute and so their recommendations hold considerable weight.
There were 462 recommendations made to Parliament last December. Nestled deep in the “Glassy Eyed” section of the document was Recommendation #430. This one reads, “Amend the Income Tax Act to provide a definition of a charity which would remove the privileged status of “advancement of religion” as a charitable purpose.”
I bet you read that Recommendation so quickly that you’re wondering why I stopped typing and am taking note of it.
Recommendation #430’s intent is to unilaterally strip all Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, etc., of their Charitable Status by removing “Advancement of Religion” as a qualification. This is legally considered a Revocation of Status and automatically triggers the Revocation Tax.
As government document T2046 very clearly says, “Revocation tax is a tax that you owe if you lose your charitable registration. The tax is equal to 100% of the value of all remaining assets, after you have paid all your debts.”
This is what was presented to Parliament. People of faith would not just lose the cherished tax receipt; they would lose every stick of furniture, the building, the toilet paper, all of the assets of houses of faith would be forfeit to the government.
Now, let’s consider for a moment who is responsible for this. Who was on that Finance Committee? The Liberals had the Chair. The Conservatives and the Bloc each a Vice-Chair. The Liberals had a further 5 members. The Conservatives 3 more and the NDP one. Of the additional participating MP’s, the Conservatives had 15 of 26. So, if you like to do the math, half of the MP’s involved in the work on this Committee that brought us Report #21 were Conservatives. Who are the friends of the church in Parliament? Please stand up, I can’t see you!
Note well that this Recommendation #430, that promises to financially eliminate all Churches in Canada within one year, which by the way is the “Winding up Period”, passed through the committee without objection from any of the Parties involved. Uncontested! Isn’t “uncontested” reminiscent of the legislation that passed making criminals of Canadian parents who sought help for their gender-confused child? The records of the Library of House of Commons describes it, “The bill was passed unanimously by the House of Commons on 1 December 2021.” Doesn’t that emphasize the fact that there is nobody in Parliament protecting the moral fabric of our country? The Devil really is in the details!
The Conservatives did write an official Dissenting Opinion into the Report for presentation to Parliament. They listed quite a number of concerns in this official document, but not one word of concern about financially eviscerating every denominational organization of faith in this country. Highlighted in this dissent is CPC’s focus to Axe the Carbon Tax, an objection to a Luxury Items Tax Act, and the job killing Capital Gains Tax hike. They asked the Government to Axe the Sales Tax on new homes under $1 million, to reintroduce and pass Bill C-356, to rein in their out-of-control deficit spending, to end their productivity-killing policies and tax hikes, to enforce anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing laws, and to stop actual crime. The dissenting opinion is obviously robust and well considered and even ends with a political prophecy naming the next Prime Minister as Pierre Poilievre.
Keep in mind, at that time, no one knew for sure that an election was imminent, and this Recommendation could very well have passed into Budget 2025 by now. At the time, the Conservative Party chose not to warn anyone. No Press conference. No official press release. If they had cared, why did they not sound the alarm? Now, that the ‘cat is out of the bag’, they are spinning the story and trying to make you believe they are your protectors. They are telling you now that they are the only party that was opposed to this Recommendation. Don’t be fooled by this brazen lie. Not the Liberals! Not the Conservatives! Not the NDP! And Not the Bloc. No party represented in Parliament opposed this financial grab in Committee or when presented to the House.
It really is time to admit that the parties now seated in the House of Commons are not protecting Canadians or Canadian institutions. If they don’t represent you, then it’s time to put your vote with the CHP where your faith will be protected. As we look toward election 2029 . . . join CHP today, help us enlist candidates for the next election and protect what you hold dear!
