New Year, New Opportunities!

Rod TaylorHow time flies when you’re having fun! 2025 went by in a blur, and 2026 is knocking on the door! Shall we let it in? I guess we have no choice….

What can we expect as we turn the page and start using our new calendars?

Well, judging by the past year, we can expect more struggles about basic aspects of our lives together—in this country and on this planet. We’ll continue to confront our misguided Prime Minister and his submissive caucus about how taxes are spent (or wasted), about our God-given rights and freedoms and about the meaning of words.

It’s true that over the decades and centuries, the usage and meaning of various words in the English language have changed. Even their spelling and pronunciation. Grammar has certainly changed and words and phrases that once had meaning in former times have become somewhat irrelevant in ours (and sometimes irreverent as well).

“How’s your bearn?” (“Bearn” is an Old English word for “son.” Haven’t heard it used lately though). The Old English word “rice” doesn’t refer to a meal item; it simply means “kingdom.” And a “bill” isn’t an invoice for some product or service. It refers to your “sword.” (Everyone needs one).

So the meaning of words has changed over time; especially before the dispute-resolving dictionary came into common use and the evolution of the English language slowed for a time. But in today’s modern age, with social media, handheld devices and electronic technology, the use and meaning of words seems to be changing at an ever-faster pace.

Not that many years ago, “liberal” used to mean “generous” (with your own money, not taxpayer dollars). “Gay” used to mean “happy” or “carefree”…not a reference to your sexual involvement with members of your own sex.

“Hate” used to mean (among other things), “…an habitual emotional attitude of distaste, coupled with sustained ill-will.” Politicians in Ottawa in 2025, attempting to censor the free expression of ideas, want to apply the word “hate” to any opinion different than their own, especially as it pertains to sex, gender and sexual relations. We will, no doubt, see more attempts to shape the language in such a way that Bible texts and the Christian worldview are seen as unwelcome, impolite—and finally—illegal.

Another word left-leaning politicians want to fight over is the word “woman.” Since 2023, the Christian Heritage Party has been in a legal battle with the City of Hamilton, Ontario because we want to post a bus-shelter advertisement with the words: “Woman—An Adult Female.” This has been a biblical, biological and dictionary definition accepted by all for a very long time. But now, the administrative elites who seek to rule over the citizens of Hamilton (and likewise over all of Canada) have decided that definition is misleading and may even be hateful. Driven by ideology, the globalist oligarchs are willing to cast tradition, logic and scientific evidence aside if it hinders their plans for a New World Order.

But Praise the Lord! As we enter through the gates of New Year 2026, we needn’t fear because Almighty God has already given us the victory! Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Whatever the devil and his minions throw at us, we can handle it because God is with us. His rod and His staff they comfort us. Though a mighty army should rise against us and the flood waters threaten to carry us away, we can rest in the knowledge that our God will never leave us nor forsake us. He will be with us in trouble. He will deliver us.

Our part in this battle, for the culture and for the future of Canada, is to pray without ceasing, to listen to His voice, to be quick to obey, no matter the cost and to testify to friend and foe that Jesus Christ, the Son of the Most High God, is with us and that only when we—the people of Canada—turn back to Him, will we see Canada reach its potential and be a blessing to all the nations of the earth. When we look at our poor country today, we say, “How could this ever happen? How could revival and reformation ever come to our darkened land?” Here, the words of Jesus give us comfort and hope, “With men this is impossible but with God ALL things are possible!”

God bless you all in 2026! Pray for our “Woman” court case; the Appeal of our Judicial Review is set to be heard February 3, 2026. Pray for our provincial councils, our EDA boards, our candidates (past, present and future). Pray for our federal government and for our provincial legislatures. Pray for your town council and local school boards. Pray for our pastors, priests, teachers and evangelists. Pray for all those facing court cases and especially those in prison for their faith.

I thank God for you all and wish you a year of growth and blessing, of protection and guidance, of opportunity and fruitfulness and a year of seeing God’s hand move in your lives.

Keep the faith! You’re needed in this battle for Canada!
