Stay or Go!

The Hill Times had an article on January 26, 2015 reporting that some candidates in the three largest federal political parties find the process of choosing candidates to be unfairly carried out:

All three major federal political parties claim they’re holding fair, open, and transparent nominations across the country, but several candidates who either ran unsuccessfully or were shut out from running by their parties without being given reasons say the nomination process is a “farce” and needs to be revamped or taken over by Elections Canada.

I can understand their frustration to have a process set out, and then to be excluded by the party “tweaking” the process. It violates our sense of fair play.

But, do we really want the government dictating to political parties?

If we see something we don’t like in a political party, we should stand up and speak out. If that doesn’t work, we can always keep trying to change things, as long as we see hope.

When the Puritans faced persecution, some stayed in Britain and fought for their faith. Others, (the Puritans) came to North America as Pilgrims. Like them, if we can’t live with the policies in our political party, we have a choice. We can either take a stand and fight for our beliefs, attempting to change the party from the inside, or we can say, “I’m out of here.”

The founders of CHP Canada were faced with a choice, they could live with the serious flaws they saw in the existing political parties, or they could give Canadians a choice—an important choice that was utterly absent. Thankfully, they stood on principle and chose to start anew.

In CHP Canada, our pro-life, pro-family stand is abundantly clear; and any leader, before opting to seek a leadership role, must agree to those fundamentals. Some things must be non-negotiable!

Pro-life Liberals will not see a pro-life candidate under the current leader, and not at all, if the Party itself adopts the current leader’s decision to refuse all pro-life candidates. You must decide to be Puritans or Pilgrims. There aren’t any other options…it’s stay or go. If the members don’t like the “tweaks” to the nomination process, that’s how your party operates, stay or go.

For pro-life Conservatives, your current leader will not allow abortion to come before Parliament; you can hope that you can clean up your party from within; or you can go to a party that respects life. Stay or go! If you don’t like the tweaks to the nomination process, stay or go.

For the (orange and green) Socialist parties, should there be any pro-lifers left—well, you know the choices! Should there be any people who do not believe government should control our every thought, you know the choices.

That’s what democracy is…people offering different visions for Canada, and Canadians choosing for which vision to cast their vote. In order to offer differing visions, we must have the freedom to express those visions. If you vote for a vision you believe is wrong, it is you who has damaged the political process…you had one vote; it should be used to state your opinion.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada has always been upfront about our pro-life, pro-family stand. Everything else, our candidates and members are free to support or seek to change. When respect for the traditions that have successfully built equality and freedom are preserved, then freedom and equality are preserved. That’s what CHP Canada seeks…to preserve freedom and equality for every Canadian, from conception to natural death.

We don’t need the government dictating to political parties. That leads to dictatorships! What we need is integrity within the parties; party members who understand their options… Stay or Go! Most of all, we need voters to understand their role… you have one vote, cast it with integrity.

The American humorist Mark Twain wrote, in an article in Colliers magazine in 1905:

If Christians should vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease. They would elect every clean candidate… and defeat every soiled one. Their prodigious power would be quickly realized and recognized, and afterward there would be no unclean candidates upon any ticket, and graft would cease.

No church organization can be found in the country that would elect men of foul character to be its shepherd, its treasurer, and superintendent of its Sunday-school. It would be revolted at the idea; it would consider such an election an insult to God. Yet every Christian congregation in the country elects foul men to public office, while quite aware that this also is an open and deliberate insult to God, who cannot approve and does not approve the placing of the liberties and the well-being of His children in the hands of infamous men. It is the Christian congregations that are responsible for the filling of our public offices with criminals, for the reason that they could prevent it if they chose to do it.

Can anyone argue with his logic?

If you’re pro-life and pro-family, join CHP Canada and really have your say!
