Same, Same, Same…

Do you remember the old hamburger commercial on TV that showed an assembly line of hamburgers all perfectly alike? As we looked at the boring rows of hamburgers rolling past, we heard the commentator droning… “Same, same, same,” and finally, as a big, juicy, well dressed hamburger went past, the commentator changed his mantra and said delightedly, “Different.”
This commercial has stayed with me as I’ve watched the independent thought that my high school teacher tried so hard to pass along to his students being crushed under the load of “same, same, same….”
This is the sad state in Canada today. Any thought that looks different is to be feared and quashed to make way for more of the “same, same, same” thinking.
Where could this be more evident than in our legal field? You know, the area where we anticipate finding our brightest minds. I mean, where we “anticipated.”
In B.C., the Liberal government, standing behind Minister of Advanced Education, Amrik Virk, has once again demonstrated its callous disregard for human rights and diversity by rescinding its approval for Trinity Western University’s (TWU) proposed law school. They’ve knuckled under to pressure from assorted special-interest groups who brazenly misrepresent themselves as champions of human rights. This follows the decisions by law societies in three provinces, (B.C., Ontario, and Nova Scotia) to refuse to accept future law students from TWU.
When was the last time you sought a lawyer using the criteria of his or her college sex life to determine your selection? I must admit, my lawyer’s sex life has never been an issue for me. I’ve never asked, to tell you the truth.
But, in today’s sex obsessed world, we must have our sexuality affirmed by everyone with whom we have contact. ”Excuse me, I’m heterosexual. I need a lawyer. You haven’t affirmed my sexuality so, thankfully, the state has decided you should not be licensed to practice law.”
Oh, wait a minute; it’s the other way, isn’t it? If a lawyer doesn’t approve the same, same, same, thoughts on unbridled sex in college; they shouldn’t be licensed to practice law. After all, can someone who has kept themselves from debauchery possibly defend the rights of someone who suffers from a debauched lifestyle?
One has to wonder who will be left to defend the rights of those who practice a moral lifestyle?
Why would men and women trained in the discipline of law use their collegial authority to impose their narrow biases on others? Why would provincial cabinet ministers deny the right of law students at Trinity to sign a covenant regarding their sexual conduct while students at TWU? Why are they so fearful of allowing others to follow the dictates of their own consciences? What’s wrong with those who profess to believe in freedom and equality but… only for those of the same, same, same sexual viewpoint?
The current government’s, and legal profession’s, obsession with sex compels them to seek affirmation of their lack of self control by compelling all to approve their choices or risk expulsion from their chosen profession. To compel others to do evil is itself evil. That’s why pimps are considered more wicked then prostitutes and drug lords more evil than the poor mules they control. That’s why pedophiles are so despised: they force children to do things that violate their tender consciences.
Lawyers, judges, and politicians should know better. As Canada and the world lurch toward cultural hegemony, the reins are tightened every day. Amidst the cries for tolerance and diversity, those shouting loudest are brandishing the clubs and shackles of intolerance and uniformity…. Same, same, same…
Across Canada, Canadians must rouse ourselves from the stupor inflicted by the same, same, same, viewpoints. We must rouse ourselves from the fear of being compelled to violate our conscience. We must demand that our educational institutions teach the art of thinking and reason. That would allow families to teach their own values to their young. We must demand that those who require same, same, same thinking in the legal profession and government, release their strangle hold on our values.
You do not need to stand alone. Members of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada are already on their feet. We have publicly made our stand against being forced to surrender our rights and freedoms to those who demand that we toe the line; demand that we surrender our individuality to same, same, same….
