Imagine… Proof of Outcome

Last week, in his Communiqué, Jim Enos spoke of the difference in world views and how they present differently in policies for a political party. He spoke also on the effects of Christians ceding the political forum to Secularism.

Canada has a rich tradition…a rich heritage….of freedom. How would the different world views play out in the political realm? As we approach a federal election that has Canadians choosing in what type of Canada we wish to live, now is a good time to look at the results of different world views.

In the news, (although not the mainstream news which has the ascendant position in reporting according to their bias), we have seen the battle in which doctors are seeking to affect public opinion. Should doctors be allowed to refuse to perform certain procedures on the basis of religious conviction?

How would opposing world views address this challenge?

According to those who believe that a doctor does not have the right to believe and act on his or her moral beliefs, doctors must be required to provide a requested service whether or not it violates their personal convictions.

We saw this requirement in Nazi Germany, where doctors were compelled to perform what services the state required of them regardless of their personal convictions. This belief, that it is a suitable moral defence to have “just obeyed orders,” was rejected at the Nuremburg Trials as immoral. Today, we see a reversal of “Nuremburg morality” from those who would compel doctors to violate their convictions of right and wrong.

This National Post article reports that Dr. Marc Gabel, an Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons official, who chairs the working group looking at this issue has been reported as saying that “physicians unwilling to provide or facilitate abortion for reasons of conscience should not be family physicians.”

According to those who believe in freedom of conscience, a doctor should not be coerced into killing a baby at the decision of its mother. Doctors must have the right to use their skills for healing to provide only healing services. The state must not compel the violation of a doctor’s conscience. This is the stand that was taken at the Nuremburg Trials. “I was just obeying orders,” is not a valid defence for inhuman behaviour.

The difference of outcome is easily seen in the brutality and evil that was performed in Nazi Germany compared to the countries that stood against this malevolent state.

Similarly, in today’s world, we have countries such as The Netherlands, where people feel compelled to carry a card in hopes that they will not “be put down” should they encounter ill health. This is the logical outcome of “mercy killing.” Statistics show that in countries that permit “physician-assisted suicide” and euthanasia, increasing numbers of patients are being killed without having given their consent. This should alarm us all.

Imagine a Canada where Canadians fear a visit to the doctor. What will be the outcome? Will they be put down like a dog? Will a baby be killed by its unwilling father because the state refuses to protect women and children?

This dreamy lullaby from John Lennon lulls many people peacefully to sleep as they languorously imagine what John Lennon saw: an illusion!

“Imagine all the people living life in peace.” What peace? The reality is that our elderly will fear for their lives; our young women will live out their pregnancies in fear; our handicapped will know that their lives are not valued by others and, had they been conceived today, they would have been killed. Is this the utopia of which John Lennon sings…everyone living in fear?

Look to the results of the secular world view if you doubt the logical outcome. One need only research Hitler, Stalin, PolPot, and Mao Tsedong, to name a few, for which the political hallmark is a total lack of respect for human life. That is the legacy of the socialist world view—all the while, they claim to protect the rights of others.

Words are not proof of outcome; they are just words…. Empty words, dreamy words, “Imagine” words.

Proof of outcome is seen in what happens when the world view is implemented. We can look to the results of our Christian heritage, freedoms unsurpassed where it has been the dominant world view. No other world view can make this claim; no other world view has the results supporting this claim.

As Jim asked last week, “If Christians are not willing to participate at public governance tables at various levels of government just who do we think will be our voice of reason?”

Do you believe in our heritage, which has spawned freedom and equality? Or are you content with utopian dreams that bear no fruit? It’s not enough to want freedom; we all must be prepared to fight to retain it.
