CHP Candidates Contesting By-Elections

Tue, May 23, 2023   |   Author: Rod Taylor   |   Volume 30    Issue 21 | Share: Gab | Facebook | Twitter

On May 14, Prime Minister Trudeau announced the beginning of four by-elections: Notre-Dame de Grâce—Westmount (QC), Oxford (ON), Winnipeg South Centre (MB) and Portage-Lisgar (MB). Notably, he did not call the by-election in Calgary Heritage (AB), probably due to the Alberta provincial elections scheduled for May 29.

The Christian Heritage Party has confirmed candidates in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount (Yves Gilbert) and in Oxford (John Markus). Any CHP member wishing to be considered for candidacy in Winnipeg South Centre should contact George Zekveld at nationaloffice@chp.ca immediately. Members who wish to support our existing candidates should also contact head office. These candidates will appreciate volunteer help and/or financial contributions. However—and this is IMPORTANT—contributions to either candidate’s campaigns should only be made AFTER the candidates have submitted their signatures and paperwork to Elections Canada and have been registered as approved candidates by Elections Canada. The candidates will not be able to receive money until then, and contributions will not be eligible for a tax receipt until they are registered.

Once they are registered, we encourage you to contribute to their campaigns . . . and to do so early in the campaign, so they will be able to purchase signs and brochures, both of which take time for printing, etc. Also, both candidates will appreciate any other help you can provide: door-knocking, putting up signs, distributing brochures, etc. If you are able to actually spend time in one of the districts as a volunteer, please let the candidates know.

Why are we running? Why are our candidates spending time and money and energy to have their names on the ballot and to speak to the public about CHP policies? Because the public deserves to know the truth about Canada’s collapsing economy and the moral decay that is destroying the hopes and dreams of young people across this country.

It’s always a privilege to share biblical truth with anyone who will listen. God says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,” and “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” He says “wisdom is the principal thing.” As Christians—whether politicians or non-politicians—we have access to God’s wisdom through His Holy Word. We must exercise our faith and share that wisdom. If not, we are accepting the perishing of others. We are accepting the dismal state of our country. We are accepting the low standards of the secular schools, the corruption of many government institutions and a future of indebtedness and moral degradation for our children and grandchildren.

What could be a better time or a greater opportunity to speak truth to our fellow-citizens than during an election campaign? Newspapers and radio stations will often reach out to the candidates for their opinions, and many local Chambers of Commerce will host live debates where our candidates will have the opportunity to explain our policies and challenge the policies of other parties.

And besides—we just might win! At every election, there is a very real possibility that a CHP candidate could be elected to become the first sitting MP for the Christian Heritage Party. Just because it has not happened yet is no reason to believe that it cannot happen now. All it takes is votes. Every voter who steps into the voting booth could choose to vote for Life, Family and Freedom. If Christians would ignore the naysayers and vote with their conscience, CHP candidates would be elected. God—who created the universe, parted the Red Sea, raised the dead, fed the 5,000 and called us to salvation—can place righteous men and women in positions of power and restore our broken nation. Is anything too hard for the Lord?

But like the children of Israel, who shrank back in disbelief and failed to enter the promised land, too many Canadian Christians have believed the lie that our God is too small to perform a miracle in a Canadian election. Let us not be among them. God calls us to faith.

Thank you, every one of you, who reads these Communiqués and encourages us with your kind words and generous gifts. Our God is still on the throne and able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think. Whatever the circumstances, He invites us to trust Him. Whatever the outcome, whatever the challenges that lie ahead, we can trust and obey, and we will see His hand at work.
