Assisted Living or Assisted Death?

If your health or physical wellbeing suddenly became much worse due to a disease or accident, would you take comfort in knowing that medical assistance in dying was close at hand? Or would you prefer to know that medical assistance in living was the priority?

Generation Xi

On Sunday, March 11, delegates to the National People’s Congress approved a constitutional amendment effectively allowing China’s President Xi Jinping to rule for life. It removed the two-term limit for the office of President, which has been in place since the end of Mao Zedong’s brutal reign of terror.

Freedom of the press has long been recognized as important to maintaining a healthy democracy. But there is always the question of money. To follow the story, follow the money. Now it is the news business itself that is the news story so let’s follow the money…

All Things Being Equal . . . They’re Not

One might have guessed that the latest Trudeau/Morneau “budget” would have had another object besides trying to rein in spending or increasing real economic growth. Sure enough, solving the inequities of the workplace is the stated goal, with “gender” being mentioned 358 times in the budget document.

If Trudeau Went to ___ What Would He Wear?

If Trudeau went to Africa, would he put black make-up on his face and wear traditional clothes to “respect their culture”? He would be called racist if he did.

A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian . . . Really?

During the long and rocky federal election of 2015, Justin Trudeau, at the Munk Leaders Debate, objected loudly to the provisions of Bill C-24 which allowed for the stripping of Canadian citizenship from dual-citizenship convicted terrorists, famously stating that “a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian”.

A One Man Band

Have you ever seen a “One Man Band”. I remember in the movie Mary Poppins, “Bert” (Dick Van Dyke) at the beginning playing his trumpet, french horn, drums, cymbals etc. while making up ditties to amuse the spectators. Fundraising, we may call it.

The Role of Conscience and the Rule of Law

On Friday, Prime Minister Trudeau tried to explain to a crowd in Nanaimo why he is willing to violate his own conscience and thinks it right to compel other Canadians to violate theirs. He claimed the inspiration for this approach was taught him by his father’s actions while he (Pierre Trudeau) was Prime Minister.

Canadian Values or Liberal Values?

Our Prime Minister’s idea of having an ideological test for Canada’s Summer Jobs Program is a story that has captured significant attention—even from journalists and commentators who are adamantly “pro-choice”—because even they can see that this is a problem.

Bullies in the Classroom

The rights of Canadian children to a safe and secure learning environment have never been in greater jeopardy than they are today. In spite of a series of programs and protocols purportedly designed to protect children from bullying, today’s classroom has become a place of ruthless indoctrination and intolerance.

Be Fruitful and Multiply (NOT!!!)

It is hard to be shocked by our left-wing media, but the CBC published an article on why people should shame families who have more children than average! As I read this article, I had to wonder at the audacity of these "conscientious objectors" who have created a backlash because Chip and Joanna Gaines decided to have their fifth child.

Miracle on 45 Main Street

Most, if not all of us, have seen the movie Miracle on 34th Street, which centres around a kindly old gentleman who claims to be Kris Kringle, Santa Claus himself. Macy’s department store has him committed to the Bellevue Mental Health Facility on the grounds that he is insane.
