​With Parliament still in recess it behooves us to take a look at the hot potato that got dropped just before the Christmas season. We’ve enjoyed our break from the shenanigans of our Prime Minister and his team but let’s not forget what was on the table when we broke for Christmas.

​New friendships. New opportunities. New responsibilities. New goals. New recipes to try. New interests and hobbies to pursue. Newly-discovered books and authors. New trails to make through new-fallen snow.

​Over 2,000 years ago, far, far away, a baby was born in a stable. That baby grew to become a man and That Man forever changed the world. From humble beginnings through all the stages of life and the agonies of the cross, He now rules from heaven.

​Riots in France! The United States, Australia, and others, refusing to sign! Protests across Canada! What’s the fuss about?

​This is a time of year when we seek peace and hope that nothing goes wrong while we take some form of a holiday and spend time with our loved ones. With that in mind, I wish all of you and your families a Blessed Christmas!

Last year, Canadians were shocked to learn that the government was demanding that businesses and charitable organizations attest to their approval of abortion before they could qualify to receive funds from the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

Maybe you remember the children’s story about a boy named Jack who sold his mother’s cow for a handful of beans? In that story, Jack climbs a beanstalk, meets a terrifying giant but somehow survives, defeats the giant and brings back gold for his mother far above the value of the cow.

​Being a Canadian has many benefits: health care, passports, and access to justice, to name a few. What parents would not want that for their child? Well, many who are not Canadian covet these benefits and want to access them through instant citizenship.

Alberta is at it again. Politicians pursuing a radical LGBTQ agenda just cannot leave others alone. Never content with the freedom to do their own thing, it seems they cannot resist the temptation to force others to get on their “gender agenda” bandwagon, to mouth the slogans of LGBTQ activists and to proclaim allegiance to the disingenuous platitudes of “inclusion” while accepting scientifically inaccurate portrayals of human biology and sociology.

Have you ever pondered the difference between tolerance and acceptance? We hear so much about tolerance but the political left’s definition requires us to redefine tolerance to mean acceptance. Yup, I said “requires.”

​Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are generally taken for granted in Canada; we don’t treasure them as we ought. But hearing about the experiences of people in other countries can give us a fresh appreciation for what we have.

​Life and freedom are both very precious and both very fragile. We live in a fallen world where sometimes beautiful things are destroyed and treasure is often squandered. Things we take for granted can be taken away in a moment. Things we highly value can be lost by carelessness or neglect.
