Last week, at the March for Life in Ottawa, I heard the news that Justin Trudeau, the leader of the Liberal Party, had announced that anyone wishing to serve as a candidate for the Liberal Party must be “pro-abort.” (Well, he said “pro-choice” but, as that’s a confusing term, I amended it to clarify what he said).
I am grateful to Justin for clarifying the Liberal Party position. We have listened for years to people saying members of the Christian Heritage Party should work within the existing party structures of the other “mainline” political parties.
With this move, Justin has made it clear that pro-lifers cannot work within the Liberal Party structures to amend the Liberal Party policies to respect human life. Anyone trying would never make it to a position of power within the Liberal Party or be allowed to have any impact.
Now that Liberal red looks more like NDP orange, they can battle it out for the position of which party is most socialist…most anti-life…most anti-family.
If only the Conservative Party would be equally honest.
We have watched various motions and bills, that would have shown a modicum of respect for human life, being quashed without due consideration, without the freedom to vote according to conscience, without consideration as to the value of women’s rights.
Consider Motion-312, MP Stephen Woodworth’s motion asking the House to examine the question of “personhood.” It was rejected, not only by the Liberals and the NDP but also by the 74 “conservative” MPs who voted against it, including PM Harper and a number of his cabinet ministers. Another example is Motion-408, MP Mark Warawa’s motion to condemn sex-selective abortion. How did the majority of Conservative MPs vote? They never had a chance to vote because the PMO stacked the committee who subsequently deemed the motion “non-votable.” How’s that for freedom of speech and freedom of conscience? To read the CHP’s response to this cowardly muzzling of elected MPs, read this article.
From the beginning, CHP Canada has been very open on the fact that the question of respect for human life is paramount to serving in any position of authority within our party. We will not allow, nor have we ever allowed, pro-aborts to serve in positions of authority within our party. Every candidate and every leader must affirm this with their signature.
The lines have been drawn in the sand…the only undeclared federal political party is the Conservative Party. I’m sure that they “personally wouldn’t choose abortion”… wink, wink, nudge, nudge…Of course, if you’re in the Conservative Party don’t expect to rise in the ranks if you are pro-life…or pro-family. As long as the Conservative Party continues to receive the undeserved support of masses of pro-life voters across the country, fewer and fewer MPs of principles and conviction will dare to speak up against the “unwritten” rules of the Conservative Party (Psst! Don’t rock the boat, Keep your convictions to yourself). You are allowed freedom of conscience as long as you don’t talk about it in public.
The CHP is the only federal party unswervingly committed to protecting innocent human life “from conception to natural death.” If you are not willing to have the wool pulled over your eyes about which political party will defend life, then join CHP Canada today. We’ve declared our position from day one.
