Founded on Principles

Canada was founded on respect for biblical principles; the evidence is in the name chosen for the new nation by the Fathers of Confederation in 1867: The Dominion of Canada.
That word, “dominion” was taken from Psalm 72:8 “He [the God of the Bible] shall have dominion from sea to sea…’ There are also dozens of quotations from Scripture engraved into the very stones of our Parliament. Lynette Bloedow’s wonderful little book, The Legacy of 25 Verses of Scripture on Parliament Hill, is a great resource that shows the depth and richness of the Christian message recorded in stone.
This great truth is reinforced and strengthened by the opening words of our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, formalized in 1982, where it clearly states, “. . . Canada is founded on principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law . . . .”
While some have tried to weaken this—either by saying, “That’s only the preamble,” or, “They didn’t specify which God.”—the Hon. Brian Peckford—the last living signer of the Constitution Act of 1982—tells us that those words are the foundation of all that follows in the Charter and are just as important as any other sections of the Charter. He also says that the Premiers who signed and endorsed the text were Christians and had no thought that they referred to any other than the Christian God of the Bible.
Recognizing this, it’s instructive to compare God’s standards of probity as they were understood at Confederation and at the adoption of the Charter with the customs and standards that have since replaced them in our legislatures, media and courts.
God’s principles (the Gold Standard) vs. Canada’s ‘modified, revisionist lowered’ standards:
The Bible says: There is only one God.
In Canada today: There are many religions and many so-called deities. In our military and correctional institutes, there are official chaplains representing other belief systems. Even Satan-worship is accepted.
The Bible says: “In the beginning He made them male and female. A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined unto his wife and the two shall be one flesh.” He clearly states that two men should not engage in a sexual act.
In Canada today: Same-sex marriage is legal. Adultery is common. Divorce is rampant. Bestiality and pedophilia are on the rise. Some men have multiple wives or partners.
The Bible says: You shall not shed innocent blood.
In Canada today: Canadian courts and legislatures approve of the killing of 100,000 innocent babies each year. Over 100,000 Canadian adults have been killed by lethal injection.
The Bible says: You shall not steal (the fruits of another’s labour). Those who steal should repay what they have stolen (along with a penalty).
In Canada today: Accumulated wealth is taken by federal, provincial and municipal politicians to spend on pet projects. Property theft and damage to the property of others is treated leniently. Victims are rarely compensated.
The Bible says: Pay back what you have borrowed. Owe no man anything.
In Canada today: Governments borrow. Then they borrow again to pay the interest. At least at the federal level, there is no attempt to repay or to “pay down the debt.” This is effectively stealing from our children, grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
The Bible says: Tell the truth. Don’t make false claims.
In Canada today: Our Prime Minister claims to be “ending hate” (C-9) while allowing the Christian message to be viciously attacked. He claims to be “protecting children” (C-34) while allowing terrible pornographic content in public schools and harmful genital mutilation paid for by taxpayers. He claims to be creating “strong borders” while making it possible for Canada Post to read your mail (C-2).
Our nation was founded by men who honoured the God of the Bible and our laws were first written by those who intended Canada to be a place where God and His Word would be respected. Until we return to His standards and begin trying to keep His commandments, we cannot expect to receive His blessings on our economy, our justice system…even our weather. God made everything and has given us “ . . . all things richly to enjoy.” But when we violate His principles, we invite His judgment.
We at CHP Canada are working hard to bring awareness of God’s principles to our fellow citizens. You can help by joining us and helping us to field and support godly candidates who will represent the principles of our founding fathers—principles that do not change with fickle public opinion but will stand the test of time. God helping us, we will continue to remind Canadians of God’s promises to those who trust and obey.
