Exciting Times for CHP Canada!
June 10, 2014 | Author: Vicki Gunn | Volume 21 Issue 24

We currently have two amazing candidates running in two federal by-elections. Members of CHP Canada will have received updates, devotionals, and prayer needs for these campaigns. If you’re not a member, it’s time to join the battle for our culture. We need you to join the team that’s fighting to retain our heritage of freedom and equality.
For information on our candidates and their campaigns visit www.chp.ca/june-2014-by-elections/.
In Macleod, the David J. Reimer campaign hit the ground running. David’s nomination papers were filed on Tuesday, June 3rd and, less than an hour later, the Returning Officer had approved his candidacy. His team had gathered 160 signatures (sixty over the required number).
After leaving the Returning Office, David was interviewed by the Lethbridge Herald, the High River Times, the Fort Macleod Gazette, and the Okotoks Western Wheel. When asked about the treatment he has received as a candidate, David assured us that his treatment by the press has been “…absolutely fair. In these interviews, I have focused on what distinguishes us from other political parties: the reference to ‘the Supremacy of God’ in the preamble to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as the God of the Bible. We are pro-life, pro-family and pro-traditional marriage.”
David is preparing for an all candidates meeting in Claresholm at the Senior Drop In Centre on June 17th, at 7 p.m. along with proposed forums in Okotoks on the 19th and Nanton on the 24th.
Preparations for a telephone campaign are underway. If you are able to assist with telephone calls, please contact Campaign Manager, Ken VandenBroek at david.reimer@chp.ca. You don’t need to live in the area. If you have a good long-distance plan the team can provide you with a list of voters to call and a script.
After a visit to Toronto, where David was present for the campaign kickoff for Linda (Gibbons) Groce, David headed back through Manitoba to Macleod, AB. On the way, he anticipates a visit in Saskatchewan with Larry Spencer (former Alliance MP in the 37th Parliament and past President of the Christian Heritage Party).
In Trinity-Spadina, the Linda (Gibbons) Groce campaign team was encouraged by the visit from the CHP Leader. Linda’s candidacy was confirmed by Elections Canada on June 6. On June 7, after a few speeches at the campaign launch, our Leader and his fellow-candidate headed out with the team of volunteers to distribute flyers.
Linda’s Campaign Manager, Peter Vogel (who also serves as National Vice President and Deputy Leader, had this to say:
“Saturday, June 7th, was a picture-perfect day: the sun was shining, the brochures were glossy, and the campaign supporters were smiling! It was a good morning to be at Cafe Diplomatico for breakfast with Linda (Gibbons) Groce and to hear CHP’s Interim Leader, David Reimer enthusiastically launch the campaign! Approximately 1,000 brochures were given out. The message is starting to hit home. Some voters turned us down right away, others took a longer look, and some expressed real interest.
It was a good start, but it is just the beginning! With your help, we will have campaigners out for the next three Saturdays leading up to voting day on June 30th.
Thank-you to everyone who has supported the campaign in any way, please keep praying, especially for Linda.”
The importance of running a solid campaign in both electoral districts cannot be overemphasized. Both campaigns are making the most of the opportunities available to raise public awareness—of the issues, the candidates, and the policies and principles of CHP Canada. Of course, responding to these opportunities requires finances. Whether it’s signs, brochures, or advertising, the campaign teams need your help today to make effective plans for the campaigns. Time is short. With less than three weeks until voting day, every hour counts and every bit of help—financial and volunteer—is appreciated.
This is not just an opportunity for local people. This is an opportunity for all CHP Canada members and supporters to take part in this campaign. Together, we can bring CHP Better Solutions to Canada. Volunteer today! We need you!
Call To Action
Visit the by-election webpage for information and to donate to the campaigns.
Both campaigns also require volunteers. Macleod is preparing a phone campaign. With your telephone long-distance package, you can phone voters in Macleod and tell them about David J. Reimer and the family-friendly principles and policies of CHP Canada.
In Trinity-Spadina, the distribution of flyers is planned for each of the 3 Saturdays remaining. If you are within driving distance of Toronto, please contact us and make yourself available for one or more Saturdays. If you are unable to participate in person, but would like to make 50 or 100 phone calls on Linda’s behalf, we will make sure you have some phone numbers to call.
