Arm in Arm for Life
May 19, 2015 | Author: Vicki Gunn | Volume 22 Issue 20
What a thrilling sight to see CHP Canada leader, Rod Taylor, surrounded by Members of Parliament! He took his place on the steps of Parliament Hill at the 18th annual March for Life in Ottawa and addressed the estimated 25,000 pro-lifers present. This was unimaginable not very long ago but it happened! I saw it!
Our leader was also interviewed by CPAC, which adds to the recognition that we received at the March for Life. (The coverage begins at 32:35 and goes to 40:20. Quotes from Rod Taylor are interspersed.)
For many years, CHP members have handed out about 5,000 CHP bookmarks to the pro-lifers assembled to mark the striking down of our abortion laws in Canada. We carried our banner through the streets of Ottawa chanting with the rest of the pro-lifers. But, this year was different. This year was very special for us as we saw our leader presented to pro-lifers as the leader of the only federal pro-life political party.
This year, as we handed out bookmarks, we could tell people that they had seen our leader a few minutes ago, speaking on the stage in front of them. This changed the way people responded to us…or did it give us more confidence as we talked to people? We felt like we had been recognized for the first time…really recognized…in the pro-life community. People could see us. People saw our leader. People could really see that there was a viable political party that was 100% pro-life. This was our year!
This year, to mark the Supreme Court of Canada decision knocking down our euthanasia laws, we carried a new banner. This year, our banner included, opposite the baby that we’ve shown since March for Life 2008, a senior citizen in a wheel chair. In Canada, both ends of the age spectrum must consider themselves in the crosshairs of the death movement. This is scary and should motivate our members, and non-members, to press forward in really supporting us in the months leading up to the 2015 federal election.
We are entering a new period in the life of the Christian Heritage Party. We participate with other pro-life groups in strategizing how to move forward with life issues in Canada. Our leader has been publicly recognized before the pro-life community. Our leader, deputy leader, and national secretary attended the Rose Dinner after the March for Life with a display table to show who we are. I was asked to pass greetings from the “House of Prayer” to Rod, whom they know.
The Lord knows what else is before us but, as our Prayer Ethics & Personnel Director has informed us… “This is the year of the Lord’s favour for the CHP.”
Thank you to our members in B.C. They have represented CHP Canada by carrying our banner at the Victoria March for Life since 2008. It is important that we are able to present CHP Canada wherever pro-life groups are assembled. We need to be visible and recognizable. Please contact national office to arrange to have our banner if you are attending an event on behalf of the Christian Heritage Party.
If you are not yet a member of CHP Canada, it’s time to join. Membership is the lifeblood of a political party. National office needs your support to ensure that we become a household word in political discussions in Canada. We have people asking us if there is a candidate in their electoral district. Politics is a grassroots event. If you want a CHP candidate then each electoral district must work together with their members to find a candidate from among their membership.
It is essential to tell your neighbours about CHP Canada. This is your responsibility, as it is mine. Let’s not hide our light under a basket. This is our time to shine! Join today and ensure that we shine coast to coast in 338 electoral districts.
