Abort this cynical marriage ‘debate’

According to CTV News, the Conservative government plans to ask MPs early in December whether they want to reopen the same-sex "marriage" debate. The motion would call for a free vote, and it's expected within days of the Dec. 2 Liberal leadership convention in Montreal.
The move, if the report is true, is purely political—a cynical, shallow deception that sells out Canada's children.
Bill C-38 was passed by Parliament 158 to 133. About three dozen Liberal backbenchers voted against it, and Ontario Liberal MP Joe Comuzzi left the Cabinet in order to vote against it (Liberal cabinet ministers were "whipped"—i.e., compelled to vote for same-sex "marriage", regardless of their conscience or convictions).
December's motion to revisit the definition of marriage will almost certainly fail. The NDP officially supports same-sex "marriage"—they even expelled MP Bev Dejarlais for voting her conscience; so does almost all of the BQ; and at least half of Liberal MPs favour same-sex "marriage".
True, the Conservatives made a campaign promise to revisit issue—but as we've seen with income trusts, that doesn't bind them.
At last month's National Marriage Caucus on Parliament Hill, "gay rights" advocates brought forward spokesmen for the radical religious Left, who argued for Bill C-38 on the basis of "equality" and "rights". But Louis Deserres of Vote Marriage Canada pointed out that the legislation protects those supposed "rights" at the expense of children's very real rights.
"Children have a right [to a mother and a father], and it's confirmed by nature," said Deserres, "Same-sex marriage says it's legal and acceptable to take away the natural parent of a child."
There's not much time left to change the government's mind; it will take a massive phone and letter-writing campaign. Call your MP TODAY—you can get the phone number of your MP's constituency office at http://www.parl.gc.ca; after choosing your language, click "Members of Parliament (Current)" [if you don't know who your MP is, you can enter your postal code to find out]—and urge your MP to insist on a Royal Commission on Marriage and the Family, instead of the Tory motion.
A Royal Commission can take enough time to study all aspects of the issue, including many important family concerns beyond same-sex "marriage"; it can hold hearings across the nation, and study legitimate reports (like the Hudson Institute's incisive The End of Marriage in Scandinavia). The French government recently established such a commission, and it recommended AGAINST legalizing same-sex "marriages" or adoptions. The deliberations of that commission and similar studies should be examined before Parliament re-opens the issue. Otherwise, MPs will merely vote on pressure, preconceived ideas, or narrow political advantage, rather than the best public policy.
The Tories' attempt to rush re-opening of the issue, when most admit the vote will probably fail, is shallow and cynical. It's a betrayal of the best interests of Canada's children. It even violates commitments Canada has made by signing the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (which asserts the primacy of families) and the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child (which asserts the child's right to a mother and a father).
