A very different election agenda

Jonah Goldberg's new book Liberal Fascism reminds us how Canada's phony 'conservative' government and illiberal 'Liberal' opposition, along with compliant liberal media, have been co-opted by so-called 'progressive' (i.e., incipient fascist) ideology. For the very heart of fascism is the idea that "government can make things better"-and that leads to using the coercive powers of government to stifle dissent.

However, the best thing any government can do to improve our economy and our lives is to get out of the way of free people, and allow their creativity and energy to work.

Government does not do a better job of running the economy, educating children, providing health care, broadcasting information and 'culture', rehabilitating criminals… or almost anything else. In fact, government's legitimate tasks are pretty much limited to defending the nation, minting the money (not renting it from the banks, and thus putting us ever-deeper in debt through compounding interest), ensuring justice and honesty by swiftly and seriously punishing crime, and maintaining essential common services. Compare the very different policy agendas of true conservatives and 'liberal fascists':

TRUE CONSERVATIVE LIBERAL FASCIST
Defend democracy & the Constitution from activist courts & tribunals Centralize management of the economy; maintain oligarchic control of Parliament and the courts
Protect innocent life Avoid difficult moral issues
Recognize the importance of the natural family Invent phony 'rights'
Real concern for real environment needs Alarmist 'Climate Change' treaties
Set health care and education free from government interference More taxes, increased bureaucracy-ration healthcare; indoctrinate rather than educate
Protect the nation from terrorists- preferably on their territory Bring the troops home NOW
Train citizens to defend home and family safely Use fear to curtail freedoms-ban law-abiding citizens from owning guns
Tax-free, interest-free infrastructure Increase taxes for infrastructure
Return control of election finance Compel taxpayers to fund parties to taxpayers whose policies they find odious;

Do you see the difference between the politics of principle, and poll-chasing pragmatism? Do you see how little real difference there is between Liberal and 'Liberal Lite'?
