He Shall Have Dominion

Tomorrow, we celebrate the 149th Birthday/Anniversary of the Dominion of Canada. Until 1982, this celebration was called ‘Dominion Day’, acknowledging Sir Leonard Tilley’s presentation to the Fathers of Confederation that our name should be based on Psalm 72:8: “He (God) shall have dominion from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.” Today, we call our day of national celebration simply, “Canada Day”.

Psalm 149, see below, is a psalm of celebration and praise to God. As we celebrate Canada Day tomorrow may we, as Christians, “Sing to the Lord a new song” and praise Him for the blessings we enjoy in our great country. May we rejoice in the Lord our Maker who is our King of kings and Lord of lords! Even though we may not agree with the decisions that are made in Parliament and the direction we are heading as a nation, we can rejoice in the Lord and “again, I say: Rejoice!”

Canadians celebrate July 1st in a variety of different ways including singing and dancing and making music reflecting our ethnic diversity and our multi-cultural mosaic.

Canadians take great delight and pride as citizens at this time in our history but God takes great delight in His children and “crowns the humble with victory,” for eternity.

As CHP Canada, and faithful children of God, may we sing for joy and continue to “rejoice in this honour.” Verse 6 “May the praise of God be in our mouths and a double-edged sword in our hands”.

May our celebrations this Canada Day include praise to God, prayer for our nation and a bold declaration of the Word of God which is sharper than any “two-edged sword.”

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

“O CANDA, WE STAND ON GUARD FOR THEE!

GOD KEEP OUR LAND GLORIOUS AND FREE!” AMEN.

July 1st pray for our Nation, Prime Minister, Government leaders, Senate, and Supreme Court

Scripture Text: Psalm 149

1 Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people. 2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. 3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. 4 For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. 5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honour and sing for joy on their beds. 6 May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, 7 to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, 8 to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, 9 to carry out the sentence written against them— this is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the Lord.
