Vicki GunnCanada has a problem with over-immigration. Last summer, we read in our newspapers about people who immigrated to this country, expecting to become part of Canadian life and, instead, found themselves sleeping in the streets, or shelters or other emergency housing. Some places were affected more than others. We heard our last Prime Minister acknowledge that the government had moved too slowly in recognizing that Canada has a problem.

Thankfully, the Liberal government saw fit to trim the numbers of immigrants coming to Canada and tighten up border security, while we spend the next many years working through the sheer volume of unvetted immigrants already in Canada.

However, trimming the number of immigrants has not changed the fact that the Liberal government signed on to the Global Compact for Migration, which could open the floodgates of the housing problem to an overwhelming deluge. (A CHP government would withdraw from that pact, and we call on whoever is elected to withdraw Canada from the GCM.)

The quick, easy, shortsighted fix of the Liberal government had to be done. However, that could not possibly solve the multifaceted problems flowing below the surface. Turning off the tap, after a flood in your home will not stop the water damage, the secondary water damage, the insurance implications, replacement of contents, the short term housing problem for your family while your home is being fixed. Those are just a few of the ramifications of a serious flood in your home.

Simplistically, wringing your hands and wailing, “I turned off the tap when I saw how bad it was,” does not solve the many problems. And that’s what we’re faced with in Canada.

We turned off the tap after we were inundated with social problems brought on by over-immigration . . . . Our healthcare system is overwhelmed. Our social services are overwhelmed. We have unscreened terrorists flooding Canada with the problems of their home country. And our pension plan needs a huge life preserver tossed to it.

Judging by the polls, the problems introduced through our Liberal government have failed to register with too many Canadians. They’re signing up for another round . . . a terrifying thought.

The family reunification program that grew through successive Liberal and Conservative governments brought in numerous seniors or near seniors who needed pensions to live. Meanwhile, some Canadian-born seniors, who have paid a working lifetime into Canada Pension Plan (CPP), have been forced to liquidate their assets to cover the inflated costs to live because CPP cannot keep up with inflation.

We have reunified families out of an excess of heart and a lack of common sense. If a set number of people pay into a pension plan, but the disbursement includes those who have not paid into the plan, there will not be sufficient funds to cover everyone. We opened qualifications for our Old Age Security (OAS) to not only age and residency but also living a mere 10 years in the country since age 18—no need to have worked or paid into the plan. To receive Canada Pension Plan, there is an age requirement and the person must have made at least one qualifying contribution to CPP/QPP. One contribution to support a person for 20-30 years of retirement?

Pension plans are just one example of what years of bad government under the Liberals and Conservatives have done to Canadians when they should have been working FOR Canadians. The debt accumulated under both the Liberals and Conservatives with the blessing of the NDP has left Canadian seniors struggling and blighted the future for next generations.

Thankfully, CHP Canada has looked outside the box for solutions. We would implement a self-administered Personal Income Security Account (PISA) to replace CPP. You pay into the plan. The money is put in an account in your name. When you need to draw on it then it is available . . . for you! You can get details on our web site.

Your money has never been out of your name because it makes sense for you to have control of your own investment in your future. That is real help for Canadian seniors.

Canada needs CHP Canada. Join today! And Vote CHP!
