When a child falls and scrapes a knee, a Band-Aid is an important part of the healing process. A scrape seems to feel better when covered with a Band-Aid, particularly one with Winnie the Pooh, Spiderman, or a princess on it. However, if the Band-Aid is placed over a dirty wound, then the Band-Aid is only masking the problem; the problem itself will fester out of sight.

Our government works under a similar thought pattern; place a Band-Aid on a dirty sore and pretend the mask is the reality.

Prisons are overcrowded! The government’s Band-Aid is to reduce the time inmates must serve by 1/3 then pretend the prison is no longer overcrowded. Taking ownership for a crime and expressing repentance is a difficult thing for many perpetrators so the Band-Aid solution is to pretend that after serving 2/3 of his sentence the perpetrator is automatically sorry. On the surface, it looks like these criminals have been rehabilitated so they must have been rehabilitated. Without repentance, prison becomes a school and criminals become “hardened.” As a result, recidivism skyrockets so the government puts another Band-Aid on the problem by building more prisons and talking about getting tough on crime. That reduces the immediate overcrowding crisis, along with the 2/3 sentence, along with pretending there has been repentance, but none of it really solves the problem.

Pretty Band-Aids don’t make the wound any better. CHP Canada believes that the government is responsible for administering real justice. Real justice requires that we look at the facts and not the emotional issues; it requires that we uncover the festering wounds, take off the pretty Band-Aid and really see the wound beneath.

Over one hundred thousand women every year in Canada experience an unwanted pregnancy and need help. The government places a Band-Aid on the problem and allows the slaughter of the “unwanted” babies. The government no longer has to deal with the powerful pro-abortion lobby and the one hundred thousand women who didn’t want to be pregnant are no longer pregnant. A pretty Band-Aid covers the festering sore. Underneath the Band-Aid lies the truth: one hundred thousand babies have been slaughtered and their mothers are left suffering with guilt, depression, physical damage, and emotional pain as a result. Must I go on?

Our Canadian demographic is in poor shape. To maintain our population we need a birthrate of 2.1 children born per woman; currently in Canada our ratio is only 1.6. Our government’s Band-Aid is mass immigration (allowing over 200,000 per year) in order to maintain our population. Underneath the Band-Aid, the festering wound is that only one in ten immigrants have had an adequate security check. We hear of more arrests for terrorist activity in Canada. What have we opened our country to?

Mass immigration has also opened Canada to an ideology that is foreign to our Canadian beliefs. It is now threatening our citizens. We hear increasingly of women being victimized by honour killings, as if there is any honour in abuse. The Band-Aid? Avoid talking about the cultures in which these crimes are acceptable. We can pretend that it’s not there.

The government must stay out of the business of Band-Aid manufacturing and deal with facts… All of the facts, not just the socially palatable ones. The facts under the Band-Aids must be opened, released of their poison, and the wound treated appropriately.

The Christian Heritage Party of Canada has excellent policies that will appropriately address each of these problems: justice, abortion, immigration, plus many others.
