Vicki GunnAs church and state continue to collide for the hearts and minds of Canadians, we find our spiritual sustenance being ripped away from us by our insatiable government. As they increasingly capture more and more of our spiritual selves, they demand that Canadians submit to the government’s right to govern all aspects of our lives.

The church (made up of many churches) has been trusting too much that the whole world appreciates the schools, hospitals, distress centres, fellowship groups, etc. that have been founded and supported by churches… But it’s a new day, and the people of faith must be aware of the gathering storm.

Like a thief in the night, in December 2024, fragments of information floated to the surface regarding the federal government’s PRE-BUDGET CONSULTATIONS IN ADVANCE OF THE 2025 BUDGET.

The matter that’s slowly surfacing is the Charitable Status of Churches and pro-life organizations.

The Standing Committee on Finance has recommended:

“Recommendation 429 - No longer provide charitable status to anti-abortion organizations.

Recommendation 430 - Amend the Income Tax Act to provide a definition of a charity which would remove the privileged status of ‘advancement of religion’ as a charitable purpose.” (PDF)

We could go on the assumption that, as Parliament is prorogued, it will not pass but we know that in our governmentally avaricious Canada, the Capital Gains Tax hasn’t passed but is still being treated by Canada Revenue Agency as if it had.

Unless Canadians rise up and speak up, what do you think could happen to our churches and pro-life organizations?

There’s a real possibility of them having their charitable tax status revoked. For years—in order to retain their Charitable Tax Status—churches have been silent about the government’s foray deep into sin. Yet, now, in spite of those efforts to be obedient and to not rebuke government when they lead the people into sin, we may lose that tax advantage anyway.

According to the government’s Revocation Tax Laws, the tax applied upon revocation would be, “equal to 100% of the fair market value of all remaining assets after all debts have been paid. This includes all income and gifts the charity receives during its winding-up period.”

That’s really important. If a charitable organization, such as a church, loses their status, their building belongs to the government, their office furniture, their sound system, their everything is forfeit. Or they could give it to an organization that hasn’t lost its status, which must support abortion, of course.

It’s not that we haven’t seen this coming. Remember the COVID restrictions? Pastors went to jail for refusing to obey man’s laws rather than God’s Law. “Do not forsake the gathering of the saints,” Hebrews 10:25. Churches paid fines for refusing to obey man’s laws over God’s Law. But on the other side, many churches went down like nine pins, accepting that in Canada today, the government could order churches closed for the better part of 2 years.

Today, worshipping Canadians have their feet held to the fire again. Churches, synagogues, mosques, etc, are all facing the loss of all of their assets. Some of the assets given prior to the Income Tax Act, which came in under the guise of “The Income War Tax Act” on Sept 20, 1917 and prior to the Registration of Charities implemented by the Department of Revenue in 1967.

Canadians must rise up and say, “NO”. We must contact our Members of Parliament now, and, should there be an election, we must demand from the next government that places of worship retain their charitable tax status. We must not lose the assets of our churches, many of which were gathered prior to government regulation of churches. This is an extreme over-reach to take from Canadians what they have invested in their love for God and His church.

Take time today and contact your MP and don’t let it end there. Speak to your family, friends, fellow worshipers and encourage them to protect what we have all given to our places of worship—places where we have sought spiritual comfort and communion with God.

The state is insatiable and will continue to overspend and then seek new means to divest Canadians of their own assets and the organizations to which that they have contributed. Don’t let that happen.

AND, remember there is only one political party that will stand against government over-reach. Join CHP Canada today and defend your right to maintain our Christian heritage.
