'Human Rights Commissions are violating our RIGHTS!' — Says CHP Deputy Leader Jim Hnatiuk

March 17, 2008

"What's going on in Canada behind certain closed doors is increasingly disturbing and you should know about it. There's a problem in this country with the Human Rights Commissions (HRC) and it's up to our Members of Parliament to deal with it," says Hnatiuk

"The purpose of the HRC was to prevent discrimination against minority groups in employment and housing. They were to review complaints of discrimination based on race, religion, religious creed, sex, marital status, physical and mental disabilities, political opinion, colour, or ethnic, national or social origin, and age.

"However, it has become increasing obvious that the CHRC now

  • convicts on hurt feelings;
  • convicts on perceptions;
  • convicts on what might have happened; and
  • truth is not a defense!"

Mr. Hantiuk listed some controversial cases currently being tried:

  • Ezra Levant, publisher of the Western Standard, charged before Canadian Human Rights Commission for reprinting Danish cartoons of Muhammed;
  • Pastor Stephen Boisson, charged before Alberta Human Rights Commission with fostering hate towards homosexuals'
  • Dr. Chris Kempling, whose livelihood as a teacher is threatened by the BC College of Teachers, because he was a CHP candidate;
  • Catholic Insight Magazine, charged before Canadian Human Rights Commission with inciting hatred against homosexuals;
  • CHP Leader Ron Gray, the CHP National Office and the Party's Skeena—Bulkley Valley electoral district association, charged before Canadian Human Rights Commission with inciting hatred against homosexuals—for reprinting a news story about an academic report by an American university.

"I encourage Canadians to learn more about these cases," says Jim Hnatiuk. "They'll see that their fellow-Canadians are being muzzled, merely for their religious and political beliefs—which is absolutely contrary to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

"We're being told what we may believe; we are being told what our political viewpoints may be; and the media are being told what they may report to Canadians.

"I know this was not the intent of Parliament when it established the HRC. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press and freedom of political beliefs are being violated in these cases, and in many other cases across Canada before both federal and provincial HRCs.

"The CHRC is violating our fundamental rights! Therefore we have a problem—any time a process allows conviction outside the principles of justice, there is a problem.

"It's the job of our federal Parliamentarians to protect human rights nation-wide! If a Provincial Human Rights Commission is violating the rights of Canadians, it is up to the Federal Government to ensure that the matter is dealt with.

"Contact your MP and your provincial MLAs or MPPs today to demand the defunding of these anti-democratic institutions!

"Our rights are not privileges which Canadians could be granted.... They are our RIGHTS!"
