Defend Life
ABORTION
- The CHP is the only federal party with a policy of protecting all innocent human life from conception.
- Abortion is NOT a Charter-protected right.
- Many recent studies have shown a link between abortion and breast cancer.
- Abortion should be defunded, not defended.
EUTHANASIA / ASSISTED SUICIDE
- Killing innocent people is always wrong; CHP would work to restore protection from assisted suicide and euthanasia.
- We want to kill the pain, not the patient; we support better access to palliative comfort care.
- Every human life has intrinsic value; there is no such thing as a life not worth living.
- Health care professionals need conscience protection; no Canadian should be forced to violate his or her conscience.
The right to life is the first and most basic of rights. Without life, no other right matters. The pre-born, elderly, infirm, mentally handicapped, all people, have the right to protection from conception to natural death.
Humans are image bearers of God and thus life has God-given value, regardless of race, age, gender, or physical or mental handicap. Our Charter must be amended to affirm these truths.
Medical professionals have a Constitutional Right to abide by their consciences. The state must not mandate beliefs or cause someone to violate their conscience.
The Hippocratic oath “to do no harm” (or "primum non nocere,”) was sworn by most Canadian doctors until recently. This must be restored to the intent of medical professionals.
Sanctity and value of human life
We affirm that human life exists and is sacred from conception and has God-given value, regardless of race, age, gender, or physical or mental handicap. We believe that the human body is the property of God, and that no one but God has the authority to terminate human life except in accord with the express provisions of the Bible. No person, institution, or government shall tolerate, encourage, or decree death by means such as abortion, euthanasia, Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) or suicide.
Abortion
Abortion is the deliberate killing of an innocent human being, and therefore is a crime against God, the pre-born child, the mother and father, and society. It should be treated as such by the Government and must not be permitted or supported.
- The CHP is the only federal party with a policy of protecting all innocent human life from conception.
- Abortion is NOT a Charter-protected right.
- Many recent studies have shown a link between abortion and breast cancer.
- Abortion should be defunded, not defended.
We would eliminate all public funding of organizations that advocate or perform abortions.
The pre-born child has the right to life, liberty and security of the person from the moment of conception. These rights of the pre-born must be protected in Canada’s laws through appropriate amendments to our Criminal Code and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Once this protection is in force, any person who performs or assists in an abortion, or arranges for a woman to have an abortion, should be charged with a criminal offence.
Any medical practitioner convicted of performing an abortion, or assisting in an abortion, or arranging for a woman to have an abortion should have his or her license suspended.
Any individual or corporation that manufactures, distributes, sells, or administers any drug or device for the purpose of procuring an abortion should be charged with a criminal offence.
The Government has a moral responsibility to provide financial assistance to social, community, and volunteer agencies that provide care and support for women during and after crisis pregnancies.
Necessary medical treatment to prevent the deaths of either the mother or the pre-born child, or both, but which results in the unintended death of either or both, should not be considered a criminal offence. Every effort should be made to save both lives.
Protection of the pre-born child
Section 7 of the ‘Charter of Rights’ should be amended to qualify the term “everyone” with the words, “including a pre-born child from the moment of conception” as having the right to life, liberty and security of the person. The Criminal Code must be amended to recognize the personhood of all human beings, from conception to natural death, ensuring their rights under the Constitution.
Adoption, not abortion
When a woman is faced with an unanticipated pregnancy, we should surround her with care, comfort, counsel and the information she needs to understand her unique role in this child’s life.
Every baby is a wanted baby, though not necessarily wanted by the natural parents. Many couples are eagerly waiting to adopt children and nurture them in a loving home.
Adoption, therefore, must receive primary attention as a desirable outcome to an undesired pregnancy. CHP promotes improvements to our adoption process to make adoption easier and more affordable for married couples.
The duty to give conceived life the opportunity to experience birth, proceed with their God-given life in a secure and loving environment provided by adoptive parents must supersede any legal provision to terminate a pregnancy by abortion.
With a concerted effort by each citizen, displaying love in action, Canada will become once more a life-affirming and child-loving nation—a model for the rest of the world to follow.
A CHP government
- would eliminate all public funding of organizations that advocate or perform abortions.
- would amend Section 7 of the ‘Charter of Rights’ to qualify the term “everyone” with the words, “including a pre-born child from the moment of conception” using the formula outlined in our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- would, once this protection is in force, any person who performs or assists in an abortion, or arranges for a woman to have an abortion, would be charged with a criminal offence.
- would ensure any medical practitioner convicted of performing an abortion, or assisting in an abortion, or arranging for a woman to have an abortion should have his or her license suspended.
- would charge with a criminal offence any individual or corporation that manufactures, distributes, sells, or administers any drug or device for the purpose of procuring an abortion.
