Pro-Lifers Need NOT Apply
At various times and through various waves of immigration, immigrants have arrived to sometimes find the ‘welcome mat’ taken in, the sidewalks rolled up, and angry stares following them wherever they went.
It’s a tough way to arrive in a new country, seeking a new life. From prior to Confederation, when “Irish need NOT apply” signs were posted, we have seen new immigrants struggling for acceptance.
But things are different today. Canada, for the most part, in spite of what our Prime Minister says, welcomes immigrants from around the world. Many of us have tried to support new immigrants to ensure that they get settled in our communities.
That doesn’t mean that equality has been achieved in Canada. Unfortunately, equality is slipping further from the grasp of Canadians.
In 2017, Canadians faced persecution by their own government with the limitations placed on the Canada Summer Jobs Program. That was when “Pro-lifers need NOT apply” became the catch phrase for government programs.
Canadian businesses hiring students under the Canada Summer Job Program, were required to commit to supporting abortion or be considered ineligible to receive funding assistance for summer student employment. Christian summer camps, churches, and pro-life organizations that had historically hired likeminded students to work through the summer, were suddenly advised that they “need NOT apply.” Of course, pro-abortion organizations were welcomed to the program.
Ineligible projects and job activities include those that “actively work to undermine or restrict a woman’s access to sexual and reproductive health services” or that “advocate intolerance, discrimination and/or prejudice.” (PDF) These pejorative phrases, of course, are not how pro-life Canadians would describe themselves!
Canadian provincial governments have culled through Canadian businesses since COVID shutdowns to choose which businesses will survive the pandemic and which businesses would likely collapse. Big stores, like Costco and Walmart, were chosen to survive. Small businesses were tossed on the scrap heap of time by forcing their closure, while their competitors were allowed to remain open garnering all the Christmas and pre-Christmas sales. Churches have been tossed on the scrap heap as well by restricting their ability to strengthen their connectedness through fellowship. Extended families have been tossed on the scrap heap by banning family gatherings outside of household “bubbles.”
Today, we face a new slap-down. Global News—having dug through the applications of organizations seeking to access government funds to carry them through the government lockdowns—found that some pro-life organizations had applied for and received funds to keep their doors open also . . . Canadian organizations supported by Canadians.
I didn’t notice Global News rejecting taxpayer funds when the funds were offered to media that would toe the government line. They brought the information that pro-life organizations had received assistance to the attention of our Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Finance. Surely, the pro-death, Chrystia Freeland, would ensure that no Canadian taxpayer money remains in the hands of Canadian organizations that won’t follow the government mandated beliefs.
The way that Global News is “helping” the government sounds almost like Chinese organizations, which, according to this article, “Chinese law does require organizations and citizens to support, assist and cooperate with intelligence work.” Global News seems to be doing this voluntarily! One should wonder what favours they will ask in return . . . .
Can you imagine Canadian pro-life groups receiving Canadian taxpayer funds like many other Canadian groups? This government believes that it is not to be endured! Pro-life organizations are obviously misogynists, supported by dinosaurs and should go the way of the dinosaur. Canadians must not be allowed to hold such detrimental views! Right? Shouldn’t the Canadian government just overlook the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and mandate what we may believe?
It’s time for pro-lifers to be proactive in dealing with government intrusion in our lives. That’s what CHP Canada is doing!
We believe pro-life Canadians should have equal rights to present their views as any other organizations. In Guelph, Ontario, the City Council believes otherwise. This case has nothing to do with accessing government programs. This case is all about freedom of speech in public domains. The Guelph & Area Right to Life Society has been denied the opportunity to display pro-life ads on Guelph city buses (paid for by Guelph Right to Life). The CHP has been asked to seek Intervenor Status in a Judicial Review that could benefit from our Hamilton bus shelter victory in 2017. There are significant legal costs associated with this role, but we believe it is very important that CHP Canada weighs in on this case if we are granted intervenor status. Therefore, we are seeking pledges from Canadians willing to support CHP Canada seeking Intervenor Status in the Judicial Review: “Guelph and Area Right to Life vs the City of Guelph.” We estimate the cost to be $30,000, and we would need to see pledges for that amount by January 30th in order to proceed.
If you’d like to see the beautiful ads which are in dispute, please check them out: first, second, and fourth ads—shown on this website.
If you are willing to assist us by giving to this effort, please let us know by completing this pledge form. If we are able to proceed, we will contact you so you can fulfill your pledges.
If you are not a member of CHP Canada, join today. Make your voice heard!
