Is the Chinese Communist Party More Pro-Life than Canada’s Liberals?
When you think about the track record of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), you can probably think of a long list of human rights violations that would shock most Canadians—Liberals and Conservatives alike. From that standpoint, it is not really fair to ask if Canada’s Liberal Party should be compared to the CCP—but if we take a more focused look at one issue and the current stands of both parties, there is an alarming difference….
Let’s start with the Liberal Party of Canada, and their stand on abortion. Are they “pro-choice” or “pro-abortion”? Here are some quotes from their website; under the heading “Protecting your sexual and reproductive health and rights” this is written: “In 2021, women’s rights should not be up for debate. Yet the Conservatives want to roll back abortion access. Meanwhile, anti-choice organizations are actively working to spread misinformation about abortion, putting the health and safety of young people and vulnerable women at risk.” They go on to state that they would: “Establish regulations under the Canada Health Act governing accessibility for sexual and reproductive health services so there is no question, that no matter where someone lives, that they have access to publicly available sexual and reproductive health services. Failure on the part of a province to meet this standard would result in an automatic penalty applied against federal health transfers.” The term “reproductive health services” is generally their way of referring to abortion, and they are certainly in favour of making abortion more available than ever.
So what about the Chinese Communist Party? Their historic record has been one of a one-child policy and forced abortions and sterilizations; that is not what we are comparing here. What we are doing is looking at their most recent direction, and that is of the CCP actually limiting abortions for “non-medical purposes.” Recently, “The State Council said the new guidelines would aim to improve women’s overall access to pre-pregnancy health care services.” This is extremely good news. Many Chinese families will be overjoyed to hear that they are being encouraged to have three children, though for many families, the one-child policy has become such a cultural norm that they have not had more than one, despite the freedom to do so.
While we should be thankful to God for His mercy on Chinese families through the change in policy towards childbirth and abortion, let’s not lose sight of the fact that this remains a totalitarian party that is controlling its population. They still have a limit of three children per family, and only increased the limit from one for economic reasons. But they did place a restriction on abortions—and in that way, they are acting in a more life-affirming way than the Liberal Party of Canada.
This is to the shame of Canadians. The citizens of China can’t just vote out the Communist Party for all of the evil things that it has done; they don’t have that freedom. Canadians do—but we didn’t vote out our abortion-affirming Liberal MPs; now the consequences will be felt. In addition to the other pro-abortion rhetoric thrown around in the last election, there was this point from the earlier-referenced Liberal website which should have given anyone—whether they are okay with some abortions or not—pause: “A re-elected Liberal Government will: No longer provide charity status to anti-abortion organizations (for example, Crisis Pregnancy Centres) that provide dishonest counseling [sic] to women about their rights and about the options available to them at all stages of the pregnancy.” Crisis Pregnancy Centres could lose their charitable status!? Does the average Canadian think that this is how countless volunteers spending hours and hours helping women in difficult circumstances should be treated? Probably not. If this is not considered to be charitable work, what is?
Are Liberals “pro-choice”? They are certainly pro-abortion. And they are willing to use whatever power they have to the utmost; their election platform showed all Canadians that “…a Liberal government would be willing to penalize organizations that do things it doesn’t like through Canada’s tax system.”
Even as the Chinese Communist Party starts to figure out that more abortions are not necessarily better for a country, Canada’s Liberals seem to be pushing in the opposite direction. This will not go well for Canada.
Ultimately, both parties fail the moral test. God commanded people to be fruitful and multiply and condemned murder because each human life is created in His image. Neither the CCP nor the LPC acknowledge this truth. If a majority of Canadians woke up and got to work, we could democratically change our government to one that acknowledged life-affirming principles. We have that freedom in Canada, while Chinese citizens don’t even have the freedom to criticize their government. Therefore, Canadian citizens have more accountability for the actions of our government than a Chinese citizens have for the actions of the CCP. We must be persistent and act as a conscience to our immoral government.
CHP continues to be the only party in Canada that stands up for all pre-born children—because they are made in the image of God and must not be murdered for any reason. If you believe that each and every child matters, please support CHP and become a member.
