On Sunday, June 12th, a radical Islamic jihadist shot and killed 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Rather than focusing on the ideology which lay behind this and the majority of terrorist acts in recent years, much of the mainstream media is treating this as an example of intolerance towards gays. The Christian Heritage Party is often accused of antipathy towards gay people, and events like the Orlando massacre inevitably raise the question, “What would the CHP do?” We have a responsibility to answer that question fully and honestly.

First, let it be clear that we hold no antipathy towards anyone because of sexual orientation or gender confusion. Those are medical and psychological problems that deserve compassion and care. Period.

This should have been evident when I was leader of CHP, living in the National Capital region, at a time when a rabid anti-gay campaigner from Kansas came to Ottawa to burn a Canadian flag in front of the Supreme Court, protesting a decision involving two lesbians. At that time, an Ottawa journalist contacted me and asked if I planned to join “pastor” Phelps’ protest, which included parading in front of the high court with placards that declared “GOD HATES [GAYS]” (the actual placards used an objectionable slur).

I answered, “No. He tells lies about my Lord. God does not hate homosexual people; he hates what they do, because it so often destroys people whom He created to love.”

The newspaper didn’t print my response; it apparently did not fit their preconceived agenda. That event illustrated the degree to which bias contaminates news in the media.

We object—strenuously—to the propagandistic manipulation of the minds and attitudes of innocent children by the sexual anarchists who have taken control of news and entertainment media and the education establishment, pushing a one-sided agenda to compel a whole generation of young people to embrace and celebrate sexual aberrations that were once rightly recognized as grounds for compassion and treatment. Those sexual anarchists have even gone so far as to try to make it illegal for psychiatric professionals to offer help to such unfortunates, even if they request help. That is criminal subversion of medical ethics.

The biblical criteria that guide CHP’s policy formation for Canada do not include standards prescribed only for a theocracy in the Holy Land; Canada is not that land, and Canada is not a theocracy—nor does CHP propose to make it one. The Bible never grants individuals the authority to execute wrong-doers; the Qur’an and Shariah law do.

We do, however, propose to use biblical criteria of justice and fairness to make a better society for Canada. That would include making available compassionate treatment for victims of sexual confusion who want help, and also giving students balanced information about sexual confusion, including facts about the harm sexual perversions cause to those who engage in them.

This would better enable individual citizens to intelligently make free choices for themselves, without pushing a one-sided agenda on innocents.

Violence and the advocacy of violence against anyone are prohibited by the Criminal Code, and we endorse the enforcement of the law. CHP Canada has always supported the foundational Preamble to Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms which says: “Canada is founded on principles which recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law.” If you agree, won’t you help us restore respect for law and the Lawgiver who has given us a conscience, a free will, and a country where both can function?
