Standing in the Gap in 2025!

There are times when God’s people are called to the trenches to push through to achieve a victory, whether in military conflict or electoral struggles. There are times when we are called to places of influence to meet a need . . . perhaps disaster relief or to be a source of comfort and healing for the victims of war or to feed the hungry. There have been armies of missionaries called to distant lands to bring the gospel or simply to teach literacy, nutrition and sanitation.
And there are times when those who know their God are called to “stand in the gap,” to “hold the fort,” and to be a prophetic witness to their nation. I suggest that this is such time. Our nation, our fellow citizens (many of them), have forgotten the God who formed them, have rejected the precepts of God, have dismissed His commands, have ignored His wisdom and forsaken His promises.
Our nation—or a large percentage of the population—have just re-elected a Liberal government led by a globalist who thinks killing babies, bumping off the elderly, mutilating the bodies of boys and girls, piling on debt and censoring free speech are acceptable practices for the Canadian government.
When people reject God, scripture tells us, God gives them over to delusion and deception. The fear of the Lord is the “beginning of wisdom.” Those who knowingly reject Him and who wilfully violate His commands do not have even the “beginning” of wisdom. They have chosen to walk in darkness. They have chosen crooked paths. They have invited confusion, poor decision-making and false hopes into their lives.
When a nation rejects God, the people invite disaster and judgment. This can take many forms—economic collapse, social disruptions, extreme weather events, crop failures, droughts, floods and fires. Canadian voters—enough of them to determine the outcome—have just chosen confusion and chaos. They have chosen tyranny over personal sacrifice. They have chosen perceived competence and stability—even with the loss of freedom—over the principles upon which our nation was founded: the supremacy of God and the rule of law. Granted, in many electoral districts, there was no candidate anchored by faith and committed to faithfully representing biblical values. But there were many who did speak up and were rejected. And there were certainly many who offered change from the disastrous policies of the past nine years. But the majority chose more debt and less freedom. That’s what we’ll get.
The good news is that in select districts, moral judgment prevailed. The 36 pro-life incumbent MPs were all re-elected; not one of them lost his or her seat. In addition, 6 new pro-life candidates were elected, bringing the total number up to 42. We know—of course—that this doesn’t mean pro-life legislation will be passed, but it does put the lie to the oft-repeated opinion that being pro-life is a political liability. Unfortunately, even if the Conservatives had won a majority, and even if Pierre Poilievre had not lost his seat, he has repeatedly promised that no pro-life legislation would be passed on his watch.
Last week was the annual March for Life in Ottawa and across the nation. Thousands of good men and women, boys and girls came out to bear prophetic witness to our fellow citizens and to the recently elected (or re-elected) MPs who will take their places in the House. When the majority of our fellow citizens and our elected representatives have abandoned a biblical worldview and have abandoned the pre-born and the elderly, we, in the CHP, have a responsibility to stand in the gap for them. If we were not here—with our prophetic witness—our country would be that much closer to anarchy and judgment.
After every election—so far—we, in the CHP, have comforted ourselves and encouraged each other with these truths:
- God is still on the throne. No matter what happens, He is in control and we can trust Him, even with our losses and disappointments.
- We are not responsible for outcomes. We do our best to express biblical truths to our fellow Canadians and to plead with them to choose God’s laws over the “wisdom” of foolish men and women who think they can achieve good government while ignoring and violating God’s commands. We cannot force anyone to vote for righteousness.
- Those who choose pragmatism (“the best we can get”, “the lesser of two evils”) over principles are responsible for their own choices. As for me and my house….
Last week, on May 8th, I had the privilege of addressing the thousands of pro-lifers gathered on Parliament Hill. After I spoke, and later at our booth and during the Rose Dinner, I was approached by many people who said they would have loved to vote CHP . . . they would have voted for CHP . . . IF there had been a candidate in their district. In every case, I asked them to help us find a good candidate to run in their ridings in the next election. That will be one of the main tasks for us in the days and months ahead: to seek out one good man or woman who will carry the CHP banner for Life, Family and Freedom in the next election, and who will “stand in the gap” for our poor nation in these times of confusion.
If you know of someone who would make a good candidate, please let us know. Perhaps it’s you? Let us know.
