Convention Chairman

That’s the theme for the upcoming convention next month in Abbotsford, BC. Those of you on the email receiving end of these Communiqués will have received lots of communications over the past number of weeks and months about the preparations for the convention.

This is one of our last opportunities to communicate with all of you across Canada and encourage you to join the 125 plus people, who’ve already registered for the March 14th-17th convention.

We expect the delegates to have a busy time with plenary sessions dealing with some 45 different resolutions, which will be debated and put to a vote, as we chart the future of our party in terms of its constitution, strategy and direction. As members of EDA’s, you have an opportunity to study these resolutions and comment on them to your local leadership even if you’re not able to make it to the convention. Members can obtain the password through national office or your EDA executive.

We will have the opportunity to hear the leader outline and promote his vision for our party, and members will have an opportunity to interact with Jim’s vision in a follow-up session. As well, we have a number of workshops planned on a variety of topics from photography and online campaigning, to how Christians can deal better with the secular media, to a presentation by We Want the Debate, and a session by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. We will also be introduced to the leader of the new BC Christian Heritage Party, Mr. Wilf Hanni.

Another important task for delegates is the review of the party leader in a vote, as well as the election of party officers for the national board. If you have any suggestions for those positions, we’re still recruiting.

For those who cannot be here in person, we plan to videotape all of the proceedings of the convention and make that resource available to members afterwards (exact form to be determined).

On Friday evening, we have planned the gala dinner with guest speaker Michael Coren. Especially for those living in the Lower Mainland of BC, we encourage you to come out for this celebratory occasion. If you have not yet bought your tickets for this event ($75 per person), please consider doing so now by going online or by calling me in person at 604-856-8733 to order the tickets and pay at the door. You won’t regret it! We encourage you to come out and celebrate with us the Christian Heritage Party’s 25th anniversary.

Until Friday, there are still rooms guaranteed at the Ramada but after that there may not be, so if you still need to book a room, please call the hotel directly at 1-888-411-1070. Also, there are still advertising opportunities for your business in our convention binder or in our 25th Anniversary Commemorative Book (to be published later this year); or you may wish to host a display table at the convention. Contact us for more information and an advertising catalogue.

We look forward to welcoming delegates to BC in March and reporting back to all of our members in due time.

... Mr. Harper, I’m 61 and just got a job after years of trying. And it’s a jolly good one too, given my education and the gifts I have to offer our society. ...

A couple of weeks ago I was copied on a letter a colleague of mine had sent to Mr. Harper. He gave me permission to share with you parts of that letter that read in effect:

Mr. Harper, I’m 61 and just got a job after years of trying. And it’s a jolly good one too, given my education and the gifts I have to offer our society. I have four earned degrees, including two at the master’s level, and I’m cleaning the floor of a large supermarket on the graveyard shift. It is hard work (too hard, frankly, for a senior) with only minimum wage or less on heavy nights.

Now, you want to force me to wait an extra two years for the old age pension. My poverty is not enough for you?

Obviously, you are looking for public reaction with this declaration of righteous fiscal responsibility. You are totally disconnected from real Canadians and will never know the hardships of working full time for a poverty wage or retiring without a pension. Nor will it hurt you or your family if you have to wait a couple of extra years before qualifying for the old age pension.

Here is the voice of one of many Canadians who face uncertain retirement over the next many years. If you listen, you can hear the rising volume of Canadian retirees asking how they will survive their “golden years.” These Canadians have realized that, due to the fiscal failure of governments for the last 40 years, Canada cannot meet her obligation to those who have contributed a lifetime of work and taxes to this country.

In good faith, Canadians have worked for generations assuming that the Canada Pension Plan, which they’ve spent a lifetime supporting, will carry them through their golden years. How does Canada measure up?

In last week’s Communiqué, “Harper Should Start with MPs if He Wants to Reform Canada Pensions,” written by Gregory Thomas of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, we learned about the “pork-laden MP pension plan.”

Compare that to the impact of retirement on your average Canadian!

Canada, the land of opportunity, through fiscal mismanagement, has turned the “golden years” into the “destitute years.”

It’s too late to go back and change the myriad of poor financial decisions that have contributed to cheating our Canadian seniors out of proper retirement benefits. But, it is not too late to ensure that future decisions are made on the strong foundation of our Christian heritage.

Our heritage promotes responsibility, strong families, a clear definition of right and wrong, and responsible governments.

We can get back on track, but doing more of what has brought us here will not change the outcome. We have better solutions for retirement.

Today, take a moment to write your MP about his “pork-laden” pension plan and what your average retiring Canadian can expect over the next 50 years. The difference is a problem and we need representatives who will fight for our future in the same way they’ve fought to ensure their future. Make your MP responsible for representing you!

It’s time to ensure that your membership is up to date and to financially support the only political party that rests firmly on the heritage that gave us this great country. Go to www.chp.ca to sign up for or renew your membership, or to make your donation.

It might be understandable if a number of Canadians didn’t appreciate Prime Minister Stephen Harper talking recently about reforming public sector pensions and Old Age Security (OAS) social assistance payments.

This guest Communique reposted by permission from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation

It might be understandable if a number of Canadians didn’t appreciate Prime Minister Stephen Harper talking recently about reforming public sector pensions and Old Age Security (OAS) social assistance payments. After all, nobody likes the idea of their retirement plans changing, whether it is by way of a downturn in the market or a change in a government policy.

This is likely especially true recently, with Mr. Harper’s musings coming on the heels of two reports on MP pensions, one by the not-for-profit Canadian Taxpayers Federation and the other from the esteemed C.D. Howe Institute. What these reports made abundantly clear; Prime Minister Harper must reform MPs pensions first, if he has any hope of looking at anyone else’s.

Ultimately, Harper is quite right to tackle Canada’s demographic dilemma: the tsunami of aging baby boomers does indeed threaten to swamp the national safety net. A bit over $6,000 annually for OAS payments might not seem like a whole lot of money, but multiply it by 4.7 million retired Canadians, add in the guaranteed income supplement, spousal and widow allowances and survivor benefits, and you’re looking at $36 billion of taxpayer cash.

By 2030, if something isn’t done, Old Age Security payments are expected to balloon from $36 billion to $108 billion – that’s quite a chunk of change when you consider that the entire federal budget is about $274 billion this year.

So how does the Prime Minister start tightening the tap on entitlements for the elderly, when taxpayers contributed $23.30 for every dollar put into the Parliamentary pension plan by MPs? Taxpayers paid $102.7 million last year, while MPs and Senators chipped in $4.4 million. How do you explain to someone scraping for their retirement that Canada can’t afford $508 a month for a 65-year-old, when defeated 60-year-old backbench MP Yasmin Ratansi got $2,758 a month after just seven years on the job. Or the defeated Bloc Quebecois leader, 64-year-old Gilles Duceppe and his $11,730 monthly pension – the gift of a grateful nation for 21 years of devoted service.

Even Mr. Harper himself is in line for an annual pension payout of $223,517 if he packs it in at the end of his current term. Of course, the PM will only be 55 years old by then, and presumably, capable of doing something else to make ends meet. But if Harper were to find himself, retired with no other means of support, $223,517 does buy a lot of cat food and kerosene to make it through a chilly Calgary winter. It’s a good thing – having studied piano rather than the guitar or the violin, the PM would face limited options as a street busker.

You can’t defend these payments. And smart politicians are not even trying. Since the Canadian Taxpayers Federation published its report on MP pensions, we’ve heard some promising news from both sides of the House of Commons. It started with the Prime Minister’s own words – Harper said in an interview that the issue of parliamentary pensions “will have to be looked at.” Then Treasury Board President Tony Clement revealed that he was “tasked with putting some options forward” on MP pensions, saying the government needs “to be fair to the taxpayer.”

“I think to have any legitimacy on that file, MPs are going to have to lead by example,” said Alberta Conservative MP Brent Rathgeber, displaying both political savvy and moral fortitude from the government side of the House. Green Party leader Elizabeth May said MP pensions should be reviewed “in order to bring them more into line with norms for other Canadians,” calling it “the fair thing to do.” NDP industry critic Guy Caron said his party is willing to look at proposals to bring the MP pension plan “more in conformity, more realistic in relation to the people they lead.” And Liberal MP Marc Garneau, the former astronaut, said the CTF report was a “fair observation” of the pension landscape.

Canadians have been phoning, writing, and emailing their politicians in huge numbers, letting them know how they feel about platinum-plated MP pensions. With the next federal budget coming soon, taxpayers need to turn up the heat, and make sure the pork-laden MP pension plan is put on the chopping block, front and centre, with big a carving knife close at hand for Mr. Harper. It’s the necessary first step in long, but ultimately needed, process.

The recent Shafia so called honour killings are a wake up call that our government has let this insanity infiltrate our precious nation Canada.

The recent Shafia so called honour killings are a wake up call that our government has let this insanity infiltrate our precious nation Canada. It’s inconceivable that anyone who lives in Canada (Canadian or not) could believe that murder could have anything to do with honour. Our PM needs the courage to stop the boat and to stop it now! This is not just about getting tough on crime, this has everything to do with a culture war; it’s time the government publicly calls it what it is and shares with the nation how it plans to protect us and the rule of law.

Don’t buy the argument that Islamic culture/religion/law/education is very complex and therefore governments must tread carefully. Rather, those aspects are strategically intermixed so that while dithering governments try to figure out what to do, Islamic radicals have a field day manipulating whatever aspect of their barbaric culture will work best to overthrow our culture. This trick has worked in Europe! Now, Canadian women are being murdered and these radicals are getting a foothold in our nation. Wake up Ottawa!

It’s time Ottawa recognized that Canada is a land of hope for people from around the world precisely because of our Judeo-Christian heritage which ensures everyone is treated equally before the law. As with all Canadians, Muslim women need to be protected from the audacity of Sharia with its barbaric cultural practices.

The courts handed the murderers life sentences (minimum 25 years) so now they can live with honour at tax payer’s expense. Sick or what?

Look at the UK, the Netherlands, and other Western nations; Sharia law with its demands for cultural and legal accommodation must now receive special attention. Sharia law denies equal rights to women and endorses female genital mutilation, honour killings, polygamy, violence against homosexuals, jihad, dhimmitude, and the death of infidels!

Canada’s open and out of control policy on mass immigration is at the root of this infestation.

CHP Canada calls for the immediate overhaul of our current unsustainable policy of mass immigration to:

Recognize that immigration is being used as a form of jihad designed to undermine Canada’s Judeo-Christian culture and law and to replace it with Sharia law; CHP Canada would immediately implement a moratorium on immigration from any Sharia-based nation.

Deny immigration to any person who belongs to a group that is known to pose a threat to Canadians and Canadian society, such as those identified as terrorist organizations.

Increase the resources available for screening and reduce the levels of immigration and refugee claims to levels which can be adequately screened for security and criminal risks. Increase the use of detention for individuals whose identity is questionable, who pose a potential security threat, and those who have been ordered to leave.

Continue to use the immigration security certificate, which is a useful instrument for detaining and removing foreign terrorists.

Track, stop, arrest, and, if needed, deport individuals engaged in fundraising for the purpose of aiding and abetting terrorism.

To sum up, current Canadian laws are inadequate to secure Canada from the threats posed by the infiltration of these types of barbaric cultural practices. The above steps are just a beginning of what CHP Canada would work to implement. Wake up Ottawa!

We are often told, “If something looks too good to be true it probably is.” Well, I know now that this law of probability is wrong when it is referring to the Christian Heritage Party.

Leader’s Message to all members!

We are often told, “If something looks too good to be true it probably is.” Well, I know now that this law of probability is wrong when it is referring to the Christian Heritage Party. We CHPers know that our party offers servant leadership, down-to-earth conservative social and fiscal policies, a promise to focus again on traditional family principles, and a promise to return righteousness to our nation. Doesn’t that sound too good to be true?

It does. Yet, with my involvement over the last ten years and, more recently, as CHP Canada’s national leader for three years, I can say with all certainty that our party’s objectives, aims, motives, and heart are for the betterment of Canada alone and nothing else. Our passion is not driven by self-importance, self-gain, power, position, or manipulation. Rather it reflects servant-hood, self-sacrifice, hard work, and uncompromising loyalty to the cause. Do we make mistakes? Sure we do; we are human after all, and we’ll constantly be undergoing refinement.

In our nation, we have so many wonderful benefits which were produced by a civil society submitted to the Creator and the rule of law. Because our laws were just, we functioned under the blessing, provision, and protection of God. Many people today desire the blessings but without the prerequisite trust and dependence on God and His Word. Others have tried in the past to achieve noble democratic ideals but using the tired and dysfunctional vehicles of political parties focused on compromise and pragmatism. The Reform Party began as a protest movement promising a renewal of hope and national success. It morphed into the Alliance and came full circle as the Conservative Party of Canada. Yes, that’s the same party that just gave $6 million to Planned Parenthood International, the same party that gave $400,000 of taxpayers’ money to the Toronto Gay Pride Parade.

Well, the CHP has a different conclusion to offer and one that is highly achievable!

Believe me; the opinions of the naysayers are pretty much irrelevant unless we make the mistake of believing them and worse yet, acting upon their taunts. We need to be like the prophet Nehemiah; he did not allow himself to be distracted or intimidated. Occasionally, some of our members allow themselves to be influenced by the naysayers and it causes division, confusion, un-needed debate, and hinders our building process. Yes! BUILD is the key word and we must.

There is nothing we need to wait for. God has already provided everything we need to achieve it.

He is providing us the time, the security, the blueprints, the leadership, and faithful members. As was discussed in our recent nationwide town-hall meetings, we need to build our policies, platforms, provincial allies, web sites, membership, internal departments, and EDAs and have a CHP Central Database to tie these all into one national command and control centre.

Does that mean that if we do everything right it will come without opposition? On the contrary, we can expect major opposition as we build. Especially within the ranks of moral Christian citizens, the master Deceiver will seek to divide us with every deceptive, inviting, offending ounce of energy he has. Let’s remember that falling isn’t fatal but staying down is fatal and failure is not an option. Let’s get along and let’s get building!

To build requires a plan and during the town hall meetings we discussed and formulated the implementation of a very viable plan. Here are the blueprints of what was presented and discussed:

Blueprint for Restoration (our policies)

Blueprint for Departments (our expertise)…this is new

Blueprint for Provincial Wings (our allies)…this is new

A CHP Central Database (our command and control centre)…this is new

Once construction is complete, CHP Canada will be able to effectively coordinate and manage all our resources. The accumulation of all CHP documentation, research material, contact information, and communications will be properly channelled, filed, and made available and secure via a CHP Central Data Base. This CHP Central Data Base will act as the secure work station for all CHP executives and CHP interdepartmental work nationwide. The CHP Central Data Base will effectively manage our technologies and coordinate all internal and external CHP communications.

Our CHP Deputy Leader is working very hard on this strategic building process to see that it will increase membership and enhance EDA development. Training for EDAs is under development.

The National Board has recently established a Strategic Communications Committee whose task is to determine the message we advertise over the next four years in order that our fellow Canadians understand our exciting CHP story. This new committee is looking forward to hearing from you at our upcoming CHP Convention in Abbotsford. We not only want to spend our advertising dollars wisely but also effectively so we invite the wisdom of the membership to participate in this process.

Is this long term planning? You bet it is! But once this living CHP organism is in place and at work we’ll be ready for elections, the big media battles, putting pressure on lobby groups, national debates, and adequately equipping our candidates, executives, and members nationwide. It will be at this point that CHP Canada will be a force to be reckoned with. We will be! God willing and with your participation!

Given the state of the political arena in Canada these are disheartening times, but in contrast, that makes it very exciting times for CHP Canada. To let our light truly SHINE in this darkened mess we need to finalize our plan and then to put it in motion. That requires BUILDERS, and we need every builder (YOU!) at the upcoming national convention! Please make every effort to come as we cast the vision and Set Our Sails for Tomorrow.

Our Lord is providing us the resources, the time, the security, the blueprints, the leadership and the faithful members. Let’s use that time wisely and when CHP Canada is ready to govern this nation, He’ll give us that opportunity.

Today come and help us build that ship!

The title of this Communiqué is the theme agreed upon for this spring’s convention in Abbotsford, BC. It is an appropriately nautical theme which resonates here on the West Coast as well as it speaks to looking ahead to the future of the party. You might say that we are taking a well-deserved pause to celebrate the journey we’ve been on for the past twenty-five years; to reflect on the sometimes turbulent waters we’ve experienced as well as the smooth waters we’ve encountered. Throughout it all, we’ve sought to heed the directions of our Captain as we ventured into the often rough seas that constitute the political landscape in Canada and elsewhere.

I could probably carry through these nautical allusions for the rest of the piece, but I think you probably get the drift by now. As the chair of the upcoming convention, I wanted to draw your attention once more to the opportunity that awaits all of our members. In fact, it’s not just an “opportunity,” but I’m issuing an urgent call for “all hands on deck.” We not only plan to remember the past, to pay tribute to those who have striven valiantly for the cause these past twenty-five years, but we have work to do to set the course for the next number of years as a party. If we are to set our sails for tomorrow, we need to take an inventory of our resources and our readiness to head to sea once more. We need to see that as a party we have the policies and the strategies needed to get us to the next stop on our journey.

As members of the party, you are the lifeblood of the party. We can’t move ahead without your support, your commitment, and your prayers. That’s why I’m issuing this clarion call for you to take a good look at the convention package you all should have received by now, either via email or via the post, and to make a decision today to join many others in Abbotsford, BC from March 14 through 17, 2012. The time is now—we await your registrations which you can submit by going online through our website or via the mail. Generous tax provisions allow you to get a portion of the costs back through your income tax next year.

If for some reason you are not able to make it here yourself, why not work through your local EDA and sponsor someone else, particularly a youth delegate, to come out? We have many interesting and important resolutions to debate (such as capital punishment; name change; privatizing CBC; gun control/concealed carry; radical Islam/immigration—contact your EDA Executive for more information), and workshops to participate in, for example Jakki Jeffs’s “We Want the Debate,” a youth caucus session, and many others.

As our banquet speaker we have secured Michael Coren, whom many of you know as an outspoken advocate for justice and truth in the secular media. He’s also leading a workshop on Christians and the Media. We may even have an international representative joining us (to be confirmed).

You have an opportunity to meet up with old friends, make new ones, immerse yourself in important political debates and help to set the course of CHP Canada for the next decade. Why not join us? Your party and your country need you! Don’t delay—we’ll see you in friendly BC in March!

P.S. We want your stories—as part of Project 25, we’re looking for your stories telling us why you joined the CHP in the first place and why you are passionate about the cause of Christian politics. Send your contributions (either written or via a YouTube video) to chp25project@gmail.com.

“It is what it is,” (IIWII). I’ve heard this a lot, lately. It likely originated with some “reality” show. I think I’m starting to get it and I don’t like it.

“It is what it is,” (IIWII). I’ve heard this a lot, lately. It likely originated with some “reality” show. I think I’m starting to get it and I don’t like it. There’s a place for resignation, and a place for vision; but IIWII just affirms Canadians’ predisposition to apathy. No, I don’t like it.

You see, folks still ask why on earth we need a conservative political party with a Christian bent that has never won anything yet, when we have a “conservative” party without a Christian bent that now has a majority. It is what it is. Let it be.

So why does the CHP exist? Well, 25 years ago some folks weren’t resigned to the “it is what it is” of Canadian politics. And thousands remain un-resigned. “It” was democracy by the choice of the “lesser of two evils.” Amply represented were the viewpoints of secularism, relativism, and socialism, while the increasingly politically-incorrect values of absolute truth, national sovereignty, sanctity of life, personal responsibility, and a do-unto-others standard of morality were inexorably eroded by a society that had cut its teeth on the humanistic propaganda of media and public education. It is what it is? Not for the CHP.

We shake our heads in disbelief when we see a country such as Cuba, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, or Egypt holding so-called democratic elections, where there is only one “candidate” to vote for, or where there are two dictators to choose from, or where we know every woman’s vote has been coerced and every man’s bought. Yet many delude themselves that voting for the lesser of two or three or four evils (secular, humanistic-based parties) in our land still says we are exercising a democratic right and duty—and treat the CHP, the only party standing for absolutes, as a non-entity, a sure loser!

Who was this oft-quoted fellow who said, “of two evils, choose neither,” and, “all that is necessary for evil to flourish is that good men do nothing”? This Edmund Burke was certainly not an it-is-what-it-is kind of guy. Is this too scary a thought? Do we fear the flak? Do we feel like Moses, not competent to answer our critics? Do we fear our clients might jump ship, our customers shop elsewhere, our family be embarrassed, or our buddies sort of just “forget” to call us for that weekend outing?

It is what it is? This sounds so fatalistic! Since when in history have Christians been the ones to just accept the status quo? We see people’s need for the salvation of Jesus Christ, and long for justice, freedom, peace, and protection. It is this gospel, the essential truth of God’s hand in the affairs of men, that has brought hope to a world otherwise in despair. Without that, ultimately, who cares? Why care about anything? It just “is what it is.” Man is a purposeless automaton in a cosmos as irrelevant as he has tried to make its Creator. But no! Good men made good laws in better times, to promote and protect the open hands and unlocked doors that attest to those laws’ validity.

And we do care, as evidenced by this conversation; borne out by the fact that we do vote; obvious from our passion in the discussion. Integrity demands that no area of one’s life be unaffected by one’s belief in the truth of who Jesus is. Anything else is at best spiritual immaturity, and at worst, hypocrisy. Let God continue to transform you by changing the way you think, (Romans 12).

The other “alternative” party that began in the same era as the CHP sacrificed its ideals to popular opinion and now rules without them. We in the CHP reject the fatalism that says we can never win: neither “it” nor we are what we shall be, as long as God rules! Wasted vote? Lesser of evils? How can anyone lose by standing for truth, life, and freedom? How can we win if we abandon them to IIWII? Who would trade the heritage of freedom blood-bought for the creeping chains of status quo? Without the CHP there is no party to represent the ideals that my grandmother’s hero expressed so well—ideals his party abandoned, but which we would do well to emulate:

“I am a Canadian,
free to speak without fear,
free to worship in my own way,
free to stand for what I think right,
free to oppose what I believe wrong, or
free to choose those who shall govern my country.
This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind.” – John G. Diefenbaker (1895-1979) Prime Minister of Canada.
Paraphrasing the Canadian Bill of Rights, July 1, 1960.

In spite of the expected accusations to the contrary, Stephen Harper today articulated clearly his position on the nagging issue of same-sex marriage, falling back on his recurring abortion rhetoric that “we have no intention of reopening or opening this issue.” The mystifying aspect of his stance is that he claims that “we had a vote on this issue,” referring to a vague request during his first year in office when—with a minority government—the hostile House was asked whether they wished to revisit the issue of same-sex marriage. The House said “No;” case closed. Really? Where is the leadership in caving in to a misguided, unreasonable, and self-serving lobby after a single failed attempt to open a discussion? If Wilberforce had given up after his first, second, third, fourth, etc. attempt, Britain might still have the slave trade.

Everyone who’s followed the debate over the years knows that the passage of same-sex marriage in 2005 was only successful because the Liberals and NDP were whipped (some before the vote and a few brave souls after). It only reached the House in the first place because of illegitimate court rulings and special treatment for that paragon of virtue, jewel thief Svend Robinson, who first promoted the concept (along with his efforts to add “sexual orientation” to the list of protected categories under Human Rights legislation). The indecent assault on the Charter by unelected judges set the stage, the leftist media (including taxpayer-funded CBC) violated listeners ad nauseum with their tales of sad and sorry homosexuals who “only want to live ‘normal’ lives with the same rights as everyone else,” and Parliament bravely stepped up to the plate and voted against the wishes of the public who elected them. Since then, the news and entertainment media, the taxpayer funded school systems, and the human rights commissions have worked hard to convince Canadians that the current status quo is what they want. Their bullying tactics have been appallingly successful and same-sex marriage has now become the “new normal.”

Back to the issue of political expediency and the true grit (no pun intended) required to challenge bad laws and pass good ones. Over the years, from its first iteration as the Reform Party and up through its somewhat compromised current edition, the Conservative Party as a whole, and Mr. Harper as an individual, have promised to eliminate the wasteful and repressive long-gun registry. We agree with and applaud that stance. Hold the line. Don’t flinch. Do what’s right. Fail once? Try again. What makes this issue different? After all, marriage between one man and one woman is the bedrock foundation of our Western society and social institutions. Why does this Prime Minister not have the backbone to stand up for marriages, for families, and for children?

If the goal of attaining power is to simply retain power, Mr. Harper’s limp excuse for not challenging the status quo might be seen as justifiable political expediency. If, however, seeking the privilege of leading this nation is to improve the prospects for a morally-cohesive society, established on fundamental principles of justice, free speech, and strengthened families, Mr. Harper’s promise to “not reopen or open the issue” is a failure of moral fibre. Of course, Mr. Harper is answering a question people aren’t asking. Reopen the debate? It was never closed.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - CHP Canada Leader Jim Hnatiuk today responded to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's statement that his government has "no intention of reopening or opening the issue" of same-sex marriage.

OTTAWA, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Jan. 13, 2012) – CHP Canada Leader Jim Hnatiuk today responded to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s statement that his government has “no intention of reopening or opening the issue” of same-sex marriage. “We had a vote on this issue”, Mr. Harper said, referring to a motion made in 2006 when the House declined his offer to revisit the debate.

Jim Hnatiuk, however, noted that “Leadership sometimes requires repeated efforts to present legislation, debate the issues, engage the opposition and seek input from the public, something which was not done properly when the Liberals and their NDP comrades pushed through misguided same-sex marriage legislation back in 2005. Mr. Harper does not use that excuse in regard to the long-gun registry. He doesn’t say: ‘We had a vote so we’re not going to reopen that issue.’ No; he pushes ahead (and rightly so). We agree that the long-gun registry was horrible legislation and should be thrown out. We think he should do the same with regard to same-sex marriage.”

Mr. Hnatiuk continued: “A series of court cases, beginning with the Egan case in 1995, resulted in the unconstitutional insertion of ‘sexual orientation’ into Canada’s Charter. Then same-sex marriage legislation was passed with a ‘whipped’ vote. Now provincial education ministries are trying to force children and their parents to accept same-sex marriage as the ‘new normal’. The Christian Heritage Party believes this is unacceptable; the Prime Minister should act honourably and restore marriage to its rightful role between one man and one woman.”

... Today, reminiscing some forty-five years later and analyzing the secret of my success, one ploy or tactic that I used stands out among all the rest.

As a youngster I loved the game of Monopoly, and over the years that I played it I increasingly became very good at it. In fact, in the last few years that I played I very seldom lost, which unfortunately also led to very few wishing to play the game with me. Today, reminiscing some forty-five years later and analyzing the secret of my success, one ploy or tactic that I used stands out among all the rest. And that was my ability to make side deals and ask for small rule changes to make the game more fun for the benefit of everyone, while unbeknownst to most of the players, I was setting the stage only to strengthen my position.

This was all accepted as part of the wheeling and dealing in the much loved family game of Monopoly. It is certainly understood that, neither I nor anyone should ever use such a self serving strategy in real life situations. Especially so in politics; the seriousness of the life changing impacts of government decisions shouldn’t ever be treated as some kind of game. But interestingly enough, I see my same childhood tactics successfully being played out in big politics today. Those in government who hold the dice get to change the laws and far too often we are finding they are simply changing the laws to benefit themselves, while convincing Canadians that the changes are really for the benefit of the country. So, do you see the similarity?

Let me give you a few examples:

Successive governments have told Canadians that mass immigration (250,000 plus every year) is a benefit to our economy, but that is a political lie for their political gain. In effect, the governing party has recruited 250,000 more bloc voters each year and our country in return has gotten higher unemployment levels and more dangerous streets. Watch the eight minute video, Mass Immigration or Domestic Growth for more information.

Here is another: Our current government has told Canadians that deficit spending is the best way out of this global economic crisis, but funding entitlements and wasteful spending with borrowed dollars is nothing less than theft. In effect, they are buying votes today with all this borrowed money that our grandchildren have to pay back. Our country is now near $600 billion in debt! For honest economic recovery solutions see here.

Here is one more: Our government has told Canadians that they support a woman’s “right to choose,” a policy that has resulted in the yearly slaughter of over 100,000 Canadian babies in their mother’s wombs. In effect, our so called “Conservative” government, rather than leading on this serious moral issue, has traded its responsibility for votes, seeking to earn support from Canada’s increasingly secular population by keeping the debate out of parliament. You can help end this holocaust! See here.

I could go on, but I trust you are starting to see my point. Our government’s disingenuous motives stand out to me like a sore thumb. They are effectively using my old game playing Monopoly tactics, but incredibly they are doing it with people’s lives and your finances, and putting at risk the safety of all Canadians.

When someone continually manipulates the rules it makes it disheartening for anyone else wanting to get involved. Now when the government manipulates the rules and deceives Canadians, that government’s focus has turned away from the betterment of Canada to one of self-preservation for political power. That, ladies and gentlemen, leaves only one option remaining for honest law-abiding citizens who wish to fight for and protect our Canadian freedoms as we’ve always known them. We as a people also have to shift our focus to that of a “Quiet Revolution”—a revolution in thinking, speaking, acting, and voting. This is not a revolution involving guns, bombs, and tanks. But the strength of this revolution will eventually hold our government and all political parties accountable. This revolution will bring back good legislation that will protect life, your family, your freedoms, your finances, and your job.

Join today and support the political organization and the Quiet Revolution that we are building in order to take back Canada. I encourage you to go to our website and join us today.
