It’s My Turn to Drive!

I started this communiqué with the title ‘The Blind Leading the Blind’ but quickly realized that the Conservative, Liberal, NDP and Bloc parliament is far from being blind.

Closer to the truth is envisioning siblings arguing as to whose turn it is to drive, and now becoming so frustrated that they risk going to their parents to plead their individual cases. I certainly remember years past teaching my teenage son and daughter how to drive my truck. It didn’t matter where we were going, they just wanted to drive! After all, it’s fun to drive!

The bigger question is where are we going? When I reflected on this, I remembered back a couple of years to a meeting I had with CHP candidate Alex Kovalenko. Alex works in the greater Toronto area and had heard that I was visiting the area. He pleaded with the national office to arrange a meeting with him.

During our meeting, Alex very passionately shared with me exactly where he knew our country was heading. You see, Alex was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1992. He described how he lived through seeing secularization and totalitarianism take over his beloved Ukraine. How the people’s right to speak out was slowly lost and how the government took control of education. Near the end, which came faster than anyone expected, government officials visited all the churches and informed them that they could preach anything they wanted inside the church but their children were not allowed to attend until they were 21 years old. As you could well imagine, persecution of the church followed…and the Iron Curtain of government control was drawn. He concluded numerous times by saying “Jim! This is happening in Canada and the people are asleep, just like the people were in Ukraine. Jim! Tell the people wherever you travel to ‘wake up’…” Over a few coffees, Alex passionately shared this same experience in detail with me no less than three times… He wanted to make sure I never forgot it. And I haven’t.

CHP Canada is the only political party that is aware of the course this nation is on, and only CHP Canada has the solutions and willingness to do something about it. We must never forget that.

I want to encourage every CHP member, every CHP officer and every CHP candidate as to the importance of your role in Canada. Never before in the history of our nation has your presence been so very necessary. Our CHP candidate Jim Enos’ speech (in part) that he gave not long ago in Hamilton Mountain couldn’t say it better:

I was listening to Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family one morning many years ago. He was responding to the question, “Why do Christians seem to have so little influence on public policy.” Dr. Dobson responded, “Christians are too quick to walk away from the table. If they don’t win, they pick up their marbles, cry foul and go home.” That has stuck with me. If you ever have an opportunity to participate at a public table, don’t expect to win on round one, as you probably won’t, but don’t leave the table, come back for round 2 and 3 and 4 and¼

Also remember that forces of wickedness will be at our door, trying to intimidate us, discourage us, or fill us with fear. That’s a given, because just think of what a Christian Heritage Party government would bring to Canada. And as we get closer to making that happen the ferocity and the deceitfulness of what comes against us will magnify.

The siblings in parliament are quarrelling over who is going to drive. We, in CHP Canada, must stay the course with tenacity and longsuffering while building and getting ready, because we will prevail.

Today, do your part! Contact and support your local CHP candidate – because they are ‘at the table’ for you once again! If you don’t have a candidate, but are willing to stand yourself as candidate, then contact Vicki Gunn through national office or if that’s not possible then send a generous contribution to our national campaign office today!

Our country is in your hands!
