We are a country of selectors. If a fish is the wrong size, we throw it back. If we’re fishing for trout and get a bass, we throw the bass back. If the wedding colours are blue, we reject the red dress.
But aborting a baby because she’s the wrong sex carries our option to select too far!
According to a National Post article, two medical experts are calling for laws to prevent the release of a child’s sex early in the pregnancy.
The article states: “They [the medical experts] admit it is unfortunate doctors should have to play such a role, but say it is unavoidable because Canadian law does not address the sex-selection phenomenon—or any other aspect of abortion.”
For many years, Canadian politicians have failed to carry out their duty to legislate on this important issue. The lack of moral leadership and responsible discussion by consecutive governments has left us in a position where abortion is legal up to the actual moment of the birth of the child.
We are in the shameful position of being a nation where sex selection is regularly practiced. Thankfully not to the extremes found in places like China, but certainly enough to affect the demographics of some Canadian communities.
It’s a sad commentary indeed on our elected representatives when doctors are forced to seek the implementation oflaws to protect Canadian children, and ultimately the adult world they will inhabit, because politicians are too afraid step up to the plate and grapple with what has become a thorny issue.
It’s one thing to throw back a fish because it’s not what we wanted, or reject a dress because it’s not what we wanted, it’s quite another thing to kill girls in the womb because they’re not what we’d prefer. China today faces an incredible imbalance between male and female populations. According to MSNBC between the years 2001 and 2003 China’s police force rescued 42,000 kidnapped women as 80 million ‘low status’ men sought to deal with the shortage of women.
On April 6th, 2010, Brian Lilley from AM 1150 wrote about the fairly consistent attitudes of Canadians on the issue of abortion. He said, “In October 2009, the latest telephone survey of 2002 Canadians found that only 34% of Canadians agree with the status quo on abortions in Canada.” That means that 66% of Canadians want some form of restriction on abortion. Further, many polls have consistently revealed that Canadians hold abortion for the purpose of sex selection in the highest contempt. And still our governments dither.
CHP Canada is Canada’s only pro-life federal political party. The only party which will protect our sons and daughters to ensure that they have all of the opportunities which life has to offer, including the opportunity to marry and have children of their own.
CHP Canada is Canada’s only federal political party which protects against the exploitation of both men and women and boys and girls by those who offer them no choice but death.
It’s time for a government which doesn’t allow the ‘throwing back’ of rejected children. It’s time for responsible government! It’s time for the Christian Heritage Party of Canada.
