As the garbage piles higher on the streets of Toronto, the smell is getting more and more like the odour of the rhetoric flowing from those who continue to defend pouring $400,000 of taxpayer money into Toronto’s “gay” pride parade.
There’s no justification whatever for the funding—or for that matter the continuance—of any further “gay” pride parades, anywhere in Canada.
` In The Hill Times, July 13, former Liberal MP Shelia Copps wrote: “Toronto Gay Pride Week is a marquee event of its kind in the world, culminating in a parade involving 1.2 million spectators and participants. Colour me naà ÃÆ”ÃƔÃ’Ò¯ve, but isn’t it the job of a tourism minister to support events that draw tourists to Canada?”
Now if those comments aren’t “garbage out”, the smell emanating from Toronto’s rotting trash doesn’t stink either. Canadians who understand healthy family values, Copps obviously not being one, would not promote this so called “marquee event” as a family outing nor would they ever attend it.
Suggesting that 1.2 million attended the event is absurd. Cecilia Forsyth, National President of REAL Women of Canada, did her homework and points out (in her July 13th letter to the Prime Minister): “To argue that this grant has an economic and tourism benefit is to naively accept the homosexual propaganda that over a million individuals actually attend the event. This is not possible because, if this figure were correct, the crowds would have had to be 80 deep along the 3.1 kilometre parade route. This is an absurdity. The crowd density was, on average 4-6 people deep and the total number of people can be generously set, at most, at approximately 154,000 persons.”
Sheila Copps threw another bag of garbage on the heap by saying, “The world is moving in a new direction of equality regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation. Canada has been a leader in this fight.”
The historical fact is that this “new direction” isn’t new at all. In past civilizations, this “new direction” always – always!—led to those civilizations’ eventual downfall. Surely, that’s not where Canadians want to see Canada led.
Indeed, driving blindly over a cliff cannot even remotely be called “leadership”.
Canadians want a political party willing to restore family values, traditional marriage, protection for our children and safe streets. Canadians also want a refreshing breath of the clean air; of moral, accountable government, rather than the stale air of half-truths, exaggerations, and deception. More than ever, we need a government willing to offer bold leadership for the times we live in.
This is the kind of servant-leadership that the CHP is committed to giving Canada. It’s time!
