Douglas Farrow, Professor of Christian Thought at McGill University, has written about Canada’s human rights tribunals for First Things magazine; the article has also been reprinted in Canada’s Reformed Perspective magazine.
The faults of the so-called “human rights” tribunals are many:
- Normal rules of evidence don’t apply;
- The presumption of innocence, a foundational principle in Common Law jurisprudence, doesn’t apply;
- There are no costs for the complainant; but win or lose, the accused is penalized tens of thousands of dollars, and hundreds of hours of time;
- Actual or even potential harm need not be established: only the ‘feelings’ of the complainant count;
- Truth is not a defence.
I should make a declaration of my own interest in this issue: there are two complaints against the CHP, and one against me personally—all lodged with the Canadian Human Rights Commission by the same homosexual activist. The basis of his complaint is that I have written articles, and reproduced articles by academics, which declare that it is wrong—and harmful to children—to teach them that homosexuality is “normal”.
Now the government of BC has adopted a “teachers’ guide”, written by two homosexual men—Making Space, Giving Voice—that is a plan for brainwashing children into accepting sexual behaviour that medical evidence shows will shorten the life expectancy of those who indulge in it. Representatives of parents of BC students have not been allowed to meet Ministry officials to express their concerns.
Such an event validates Professor Farrow’s previous opinion, written in June of 2005, that Canadians have a moral obligation to refuse to recognize Bill C-38, which legalized same-sex “marriage”; he said it is ultra vires. (See: http://can.mailarchive.ca/politics/2005-06/13191.html)
To put it more simply, Bill C-38 and BC’s Corren Settlement Agreement represent a sharp rise in liberal fascism in Canada.
For the sake of our children, every Canadian must take a stand in opposition to this illiberal trend. In BC, it has to start with the defeat next Spring of the Campbell Liberals. Those who find the NDP equally morally repugnant will have to support the BC Conservatives, led by Wilf Hanni. There is no other moral choice in BC.
On a federal level, the Christian Heritage Party is the only political party willing to protect Canadian children from a shortened life expectancy. Between now and the next federal election make your voice heard by joining the CHP in our battle for the future of our children.
